Ok so I asked this question a few hours ago but I got more responses for orks. My friend said that Guardsmen are not worth it and I was wondering is this true, if they are worth it a good convincing argument would be nice. Thanks

They are worth it when you add all of the heavy weapons, abilties, etc. you add to them.

That being said, few units are "worth it" unless used properly. However first rank fire, second rank fire, is pretty scary on its own, imo.

Ok, you can field more squads of guardsmen than Orks, at 12" you have double tap. Now we add in things like ACs, for 10 points I have a 42" cannon that puts holes in most things and is effective against light armor. At 15 points I have a lascannon, in a 2k game I can shove 42 lascannons into one army and they are wrapped in so much bubble wrap you don't have a board big enough to hold my army of men.

Guardsmen solve the problem of war in the easiet fashion available, massive amounts of everything.

Give me enough guardsmen and I can turn any fortress into dust. Next to no list builds have the ability to destroy so many guardsmen you have to ADVANCE just to get MORE guardsmen onto the table.

Now back to special weapons, guardsmen can field the most specialized gear in the game. Only Sisters seem to come close to guard and their pseudo guardsmen at that.

You have 200 boys? Well I have over 200 shots at 24 inches. Let them come.
