Subject: Where do I put my BA libby?
|
 |
Homicidal Veteran Blood Angel Assault Marine
|
I'm making a shooty BA-list in my game against 'Crons tomorrow.
My HQ choice is simple lvl 1 libby with Divination and nothing special accessories.
And I have a little problemwith him.
I don't know in which squad to put him. My 2 possibilites:
1) 5 man Sternguard
w/ 2x meltagun and power fist in Razorback.
If he has tanks it's mostly their job to get rid of them.
If not, I'll harass some Warriors with S4 AP4 range 30'' ammunition.
(also, that fist is there for AT so should I change it to Power Sword and 2x Melta bombs?)
2) Combat squaded Tac squad.
Sgt with combi-plasma goes with 4 marines (including plas gun). Also in Razorback.
These guys will propably drive close, get out, rapid fire 4 plasma shots and assault (read: get assaulted) next turn.
Or I'll def some mid-field objective with them
So what do you think? C&C aprreciated

I'd put him with the Sternguard to take best advantage of prescience, as against the 3+ Armour you'll be facing, you'll want to re-roll "gets hot". And if not, you still want to get enough hits to do damage with them.

I was also thinking that. I think the problem here is: do I want 2 semi-good squads or one pain in the ass for opponent and another that isn't great but can propably handle itself...

Against crons transports seem a waste of points, if he's running warriors get a unit of Devs with HB and presience them up, should be 8 cron warriors dead if my maths is roughly right, then send in an assault squad to take the rest and hopefully sweep him into nothing, most seasoned BA players will say take AS and leave the TAC at home

From the two options given I'd say go with the melta Sternguard. That plasma combat squad is not going to be enough to take out your average 2+ save unit, so you're pretty much throwing the Librarian away with them.
Mores to the point though...if this is a shooty list, have you taken Devastators? He'd be MUCH better with them..

Thanks for input! I like Tac squads over ASM but in this game I'm trying to find balance between them. I play this game against my friend and I'm going to try some new things like Typhoon Speeders. I was concidering Devs but I tought I'll try a little more direct approach and have support from another half of Tac squad (w/ Plas cannon) Automatically Appended Next Post: And my math says that with 4 HB (+ libby & Signum) will take 9 necrons down, 4 of them will rise back. So 4 Warriors die every turn for 230 points. Even less if they have at least some cover.

But transports are not a waste against other armies. And transports with long range weapons still aren't a waste, because the Gauss hose down is medium-short range.

If you're only using one squad to fire on a particular unit, with Necrons at least, you're doing it wrong. You need to either wipe the unit out with combined fire, or get a lucky roll causing them to break. With BA in particular, you're more likely to run them down in combat, at which point the RP rolls will have already taken place, but every little helps.
With that in mind, 9 *extra* wounds on a unit is a hell of a result. The maths seems rounded up, though... quick estimate in my head says it's more likely 7/8.
