I was just reading my chaos codex the other day(I am new to 40k, started a year ago). I came across Maulerfiedn which I have totally overlooked as I was focusing more on shooty unit like forgefeind(mehhhh) and others.
This beast is nasty. 12inch movement, IWND, daemon, daemonforge, ALL AT 125 POINTS?
4 attacks on a charge(including the magma cutters) and Potentially 5 attacks. Am I correct? I have been reaeding review that says it can put out 6 attacks on a charge. wonder where the 6th attack come from.
Anyway. back to the point. I think we chaos player has found our answer to that annoying mindshackle scarab. Assuming I hit with all that attacks. Woah. NASTY.
It can also Probably will bog a swarmlord a bit(when you have other stuff you dont want swarmy charging into).
The only weakness I see is them taking the limited heavy support slot in the force organisation chart. I like bigger games. double force chart for me. So no biggie for me.
In smaller 2k games I can still bring 1 though. depending on opponent.
I AM BUYING 2 TO INCLUDE INTO MY WORD BEARERS(MORE FLUFF FOR ME)
UNLESS SOMEONE IN THIS THREAD CONVINCE ME NOT TO!

I'm not convinced that they're all what they're made up to be. Sure, they're good in combat, if the can survive long enough to make it there, and they're too easy to bog down with larger units: it only has what, 2-3 attacks basic?
Swarmlord will tear this thing apart without even breaking a sweat. Seriously. They also compete the HS slots with Forgefiends, Predators and Obliterators, all of which are much better.
(Also, putting large bits in caps really isn't funny, or indeed mature)

Yes I agree that they are competing for the heavy support section on the force organisation chart.
But they are not the only thing on the board that your opponent can shoot at I suppose?
Yes. Swarmlord will tear it apart. I am not saying it can take on Swarmlord. More like sacrificing it to bog down the Swarmlord.
I would say that Maulerfiend is better than Forgefiend. IMO.
But the point is. This is our ultimate answer to Mindshackle Scarab? no?

Bog down the Swarmlord for a single Assault Phase, after which he will consolidate, finishing up even closer to your guys than if you hadn't assaulted him.
No, not really the "ultimate answer to Mindshackle Scarabs", as now you only have 3 attacks as WS3, while he's hitting you with a S7 Armourbane Warscythe giving him a 50% chance to destroy you for every Penetrating Hit, that's of course depending on if you can even get into assault after wading though all that Gauss fire...

First of all the best way to take down swarmy is shooting.
Secondly, he's way more than 125pt so no comparison really.
As far as Crons, it's not the worst idea I've seen.
It's nowhere near the best either.
That said though it is a threat and needs to be dealt with otherwise it will make a mess of things.

Forgefiend's big skill, is assaulting vehicles to death. Against infantry, it's average.
What its really for, is if you want anti-tank,.in a fast assault build, where it's one of many threat's rushing towards the enemy lines.

Valkyrie is right any Necron lord with MSS will likely have a warscythe too, so it'd be byebye Maulerfiend nearly every time. Especially if its a Royal Court or Lychguard with Scythes.
As for the fiends themselves, they're not bad for their points, but if I were you I'd take Forgfiend Pred and Obliterators everytime for the increased potential for mass destruction

I've been playing against dual Maulerfiends and my NobBikerz and MegaNobz don't like their Str 10 attacks one bit! They're too durable for my Lootas to consistantly take out at range whilst also trying to deal with flying DP and HellDrakes. They kinda sneak under the radar and hit like a ton of bricks. I hope to hell they are as good as you say. When I finally do fall to Chaos its 100% going to be some choppy Iron Hands stuff which makes Maulerfiends pretty much compulsary

Mauler fiends can be decent but only in threat overload csm lists (running 2-3 fiends, lots of spaw etc so opponents need to make choices about what to shoot. Otherwise, I find they die a bit too quickly in most games.

Now I just know you meant Warriors!
I think Maulerfiend would fit better in FA slot, it doesn't shoot, moves fast, and the HS choices for Chaos are generally better.

Didn't know there was an 'Iron' CSM chapter already, gotta look into that.
Can't wait to put Fabius Bile and some Enhanced Marines, Maulerfiends, Soul Grinders, and other warpforged junk on the board and watch it get tabled.

This. I ran two a few times and they didn't survive past turn 2. Need more threat overload. But they take up a HS spot, so its not so easy to increase the number of threats when you are swopping them for that obliterator unit or havoc squad. They are a very obvious and big target. AV 12 just doesn't have much staying power, even with the 5++ invulnerable because they are usually not glanced to death, they are usually outright wrecked or immobilised (which is the same thing for a Maulerfiend).

Not scary for my Space Wolves, Necrons, or Sisters of Battle.
Yes, please drive that Av12 walker closer to my Melta Weapons for me, great,... thanks! (I use Triarch Stalkers in my Crons army).
Cool looking model, but as to be the broken record: Oblits, Preds, Havocs... maybe Forgefiends... a land raider.... then maybe a maulerfiend?
If they were Monstrous Creatures, I'd say, yea get two. But they aren't. They are chumps.

I completely disagree with people saying they should be fast as then you would never see them at all, because then they would compete with your other forward threats. As to those calling them chumps. Consider the following
(Not sure on points but should be close to 2k
Jugger lord
Black mace prince
5 spawn
5 nurgle spawn
5 nurgle spawn
3 mauler fiends
2 min cultists squads
Blood thirster
10 daemonettes
10 daemonettes
20 flesh hounds
Slaanesh soul grinder.
Not so easy to focus on them when you have 15 spawn, 2 FMCS, 20 hounds, a gridded etc. all in your fave turn 2. Is it the best list no. But it is functional with the fiends.

this if you are going to take one and have any hope of it getting into combat you will need another. Any time I've taken just one it has been shot up. At the same time though for only 125 points you can use it to provide tactical cover and absorb some AT fire to get other threatening stuff closer to the enemy. Unless you're taking down a bunch or russes and a bastion though I'd rather have AC havocs, oblits, and vindis in that slot.

I love the maulerfiend, i have two and I plan to play them almost all the time, its fast, which is the main thing, and its moderately hard to kill. Basically its a tank that smacks you around with powerfists and denies you attacks. You can mess up a lot of tau shooting before they mow you down just by having this guy around, and in the normal setup you should be able to get into melee in this first round most of the time. Having him run back and forth between LOS blocking cover is also good, he can pop out at any time to stirke. Hes kinda like a tank version of what the lictor should be IMO.

I love the mauler and alway add at least one in my list normally with lash whips then send it against termmies or death company or other fearless units. I find that with deamonforge it's base attacks are enough to kill a land raider upto 24" away (move ignor terrain and a good charge) if it dies after that so what, there main assault unit is walking add in other threats and it becomes a major pita for your opponent.
(just antidotal but it works in my area).
