So I'm working on updating both of my Nurgle-themed armies for Daemons and CSM, now that they both have new books. I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with a suitable replacement for Chaos Spawn in my CSM list, as I'm running 10 Spawn and don't want to fork out $20 a pop.

Since I'm planning on running Plague Drones in my Demons army, I thought a good solution might be to magnetize some "Spawny" bits and use the Plague Drones for both. My plan was to have them crawling over / around ruins, rather than using the flight stands that they come with.

So my questions are:
1.) What size base should I mount them on instead of the flight stand they come with? I've heard the large flying bases have a base of about 55mm? Is that accurate?
2.) Even if they are elevated, are the Plague Drones going to look silly mounted on 40mm bases when I use them for CSM? I haven't seen the models, so I'm not 100% sure on the proportions.

Thanks!

I like the idea of using Plague Drones to count-as Nurgle Spawn, but I don't like the idea of using literally the same models to represent different units in two armies, unless you can do some amazing magnetization to make them look very different. In particular:
- Spawn shouldn't have riders. Give the Spawn variant an extra head or tentacles replacing the rider?
- the Spawn variant would also look better (and less Drone-ish) without compulsory wings, so make the wings removable/replaceable with chaosy limbs or whatever.
- to avoid the whole base confusion issue, also magnetise the figures' base mounting, so you can mount them either on the standard flying base or a standard Spawn base.
