Dark Angels Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries

I have just begun painting my Cadians and they are the first non-space marines I have painted. Their uniforms are a little... rougher to deal with than the flat, smooth power armor. I am looking for feedback on his uniform (the cloth parts, pants, arms, etc.) to see if this is going in the right direction or not.

Firstly, you forgot to remove mold lines :(
Try to thin the paint a little, with distilled water + flow aid and possibly matte medium, try using a wash over a base with a layer of highlight on the cloth's, this should give a more natrual looking shadow compared to the hard edges.

'Ain't nothing crazy about me but my brain. Right brain? Riight! No not you right brain! Right left brain? Right!... Okay then lets do this!!

I did do a base with Zandri Dust and washed with Nuln Oil. I went over the higher parts with Ushabti Bone. I am guessing I had too much paint on the brush because the paint was pretty thin (sort of like a milk consistency).

Even at this stage, I'd wash them again. The highlights look very stark, a wash should soften them a bit and hopefully bring them all together abit more.

Thanks for the tip, I think that will work beautifully.

I would suggest adding a second step of zandri dust into your work. Currently your two colours showing are washed Zandri (quite dark) and Ushabti (quite light). If you highlight with Zandri after the wash and do a final highlight of Ushabti following that you will get a much smoother transition.

Washed Zandri > Zandri > Ushabti

Well first off:Mold Lines.
Second I like the style you've used. Intentional or not it gives them a sort of cell shaded look, that I'm sure would look great as a whole army.

In recent years we've pushed more and more to realism, and I miss cool ideas that aren't out of Scale Modeller magazine. If you made your Vehicles look cell shaded too that'd be epic. Like playing against a Scanner Darkly army.

I see what you're going for, and you're certainly on the right track. The border between the mid and base tones an the highlights is a bit stark, as others have said, a wash will help blend. Along with thinning the paint (just a little water is sufficient in this case), painting the highlights in smaller areas rather than bigger patches may help too. Boots look great IMO. I think the lighting may have a lot to do with it too as it's all a bit over exposed, or over lit. Keep up the good work!
