Hey everyone. I've been lurking around for a few days, and just today I signed up.
My sig explains a lot: I need help with starting to war-game. I love the books, and I've done some mock battles with cardboard figures to get a feel for the rules.
Unfortunately, I do not have much time or money to get a full set of figures and paint. Thus my ongoing desire is to find an inexpensive yet useful source of miniatures, and then a gaming place nearby (the one nearest my house closed.)
Ah well, whatever, I'm sure the forums will come up with something.

Finally chose Orks for my first army, will need help. Please be patient. |

Hey! Welcome to DakkaDakka! If you're looking to get some cheap minis, then E-Bay is the place to go, and Amazon usually sells them for slightly cheaper than usual. If not, I'd go for Warmachine and Hordes, because they offer a really cool background, with few minis for a decent game, and pretty cheap too. Their models are also all pewter, and are very high quality

The starter box for 40k (dark vengeance) is a good value for someone just starting out; I would buy this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Warhammer-40K-Dark-Vengeance-Starter-Set-x1-NEW-Unassembled-/390600175570?pt=Games_US&hash=item5af195afd2&_uhb=1
...I buy most of my new stuff from these guys. You can try out 2 armies annd sell the one you aren't so much into. You get the main rules too, so less book borrowing.
Ebay, specifically lazarus-games, has been good for my wallet too. Good luck!

Hello
Try Ebay , i have brought 90% of my army's from there and have around 6000 Points of Space Marines and 2000 Points of Guard and i have save a lot of money , i have been able to purchase a 10 men tactical squad for like 3 GBP plus postage and a predator for around 8GBP , one can found great (and bad)deals there if you keep an eye out for them.

Welcome to Dakka friend.
As already mentioned, the best place for cheap minis is eBay. Buy second hand, strip them and repaint as your heart desires!
Good luck and happy hunting!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the suggestions. Right now, Amazon is my best hope.
(In the coming months you may see some gallery pictures of my miniatures.)
I hope I'll enjoy my stay at the forums.
