I think you are putting to many points in HQs. Just because they can take 4 HQs doesnt mean you should. Are the WG taking the rhino for some cover? If not they cant go in them.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

Yeah, I could probably cut two of the rune priests to be honest. I just used them to make a bit more power...

Obscenely small amount of models. I mean grey knights could field more. Also rune priests aren't exactly tanks. Get a special character (Canis, Logan, Ragnar) and 1 rune priest with lots of upgrades. Wolf guard are kinda like a command squad. They can be good, or they'll get wiped out. If they are the only thing on the board worth killing, they will be killed.

My recommendation is to get 3 squads of 10 grey hunters. They are twice as good as an Ultramarine tactical squad, and cheaper. ABUSE IT!

If you aren't keen on grey hunters, blood claws are vicious killers in CC.

Your army needs more force on the table, and more models. If you are keen on the wolf guard, keep them, but use them as a shield or a vanguard, and not in the open. You need fast attack. Blood claws on bikes are durable, rapid fire bolters, are beastly in CC and are cheap(ish). Same with assault squad blood claws.
Thunderwolf cavalry are the best in the world (imo) if very expensive. They make a great vanguard and can slaughter anyone with just a few models.

Check if wolf guard are more expensive than normal terminators. Normal termies get an invul save and have the reputation for tanks.

The long fangs are good, but I would recommend 4 missile launchers. Fantastic at punching through enemy lines and have krak missiles which are useful against hull points.

When I made a list for my friend, I used 3 waves of attack. Blood claws, thunderwolves, and HQ with fenrisian wolves are the first wave.

Wolf guard and bikes or assault squad for the second wave, and grey hunters to wop it all up. It worked really well in 5th edition, but I don't think it would work well in 6th against fliers. Have a think on the 3 waves tactic and maybe add a flier or 2 in there. Do space wolves have fliers?

Just my 2 cents

Ok there are quite a few issues as i see them so here we go

Rune Priest 1: runic weapon, terminator armour wolf tail talisman, wolftooth necklace

Talisman is pointless he has a rune weapon for dispelling enemy psychic attacks, wolftooth necklace is also pointless, hes WS5 and not exactly hard in combat anyway so i wouldn't want to be challenging tough enemy characters with him

Rune Priest 2: runic weapon, storm bolter

Rune Priest 3: runic weapon, storm bolter

Storm bolter is a bit pointless if you are going Swolf Power's as a lot are done in Lieu of shooting

Wolf Lord: Belt of russ, wolftooth necklace, wolf tail talisman, power armour, bolt pistol , close combat weapon (chainsword)

This guy is totally pointless, if you are making him a CC character why does he not have either Power/Frost Weapon or Wolf Claws?

wolf guard pack 1 :
rhino
all in termie armour with power fist and storm bolter X5

Why buy a rhino for a pack that can't ride in it?

wolf guard pack 2:
all in termie armour with power fist and mark of the wulfen X3

You are paying extra points for a power fist on 3 dudes and then directly negating the fists additional points by giving mark of the wulfen as the wulfen attacks are made without the benefit of special close combat weapons

3 squads of grey hunters, 5 men apiece with one flamer per squad, all with power weapon

5 men squads of grey hunters will die insanely easily, also you will never get anywhere footslogging, you need either rhino's or my preference drop pods, i like this loadout for a hunter squad

10 Grey Hunters, 2 plasmaguns, wolf standard, mark of the wulfen, drop pod

heavy support:
Long fang pack
1 sarge with bolt pistol and chainsword
lascannon, multi melta, two plasma cannons, two missile launchers

This unit is illegal you list 6 heavy weapons and they can take a maximum of 5, that unit is a mix of long and short range heavy weapons which is a waste, try either 5 missile launchers or 3 missile launchers and 2 las/plas cannons

predator with autocannon, sponson lascannons and HK missile

predator with HK missile and lascannons (twin linked

This is an ok choice, but in all honesty with little armour in the rest of your list this is likely to get blown up early on, more long fangs are a better choice for heavy support

Overall for me i think your army is a bit confused about what it wants to do, if you want to have lots of wolf guard terminators, then take Logan, as he makes them a troops choice.

If you intend on your army surviving to get accross the board then you need to buy your hunters and wolf guard some way of getting over there, like i mentioned earlier pods are probably the way forward

4 HQ Choices is really overkill, i would go with either Logan and a Priest or Logan and 2 priests if you want to stick with the Terminator idea.

Do space wolves have fliers?

Nope they dont, but you can rectify that by taking an aegis with quad gun i like doing this

Rune Priest with Prescience joins a 6 man long fang pack with 3 missiles and 2 lascannons behind an aegis, rune priest twin links the guns and mans the quad gun using his chooser of the slain to make him BS5, then woe betide any flyers who come near as you will blow one out of the air a turn comfortably with the prescience and the quad gun to take into account

Just my opinions but i have played wolves for a long time so hope they help.

Commander Helia has said everything I would have said
Only thing I will say is:
Grey Hunters are BOMBS for the price you pay for them! Many SW players will use their army to support the grey hunters, not the other way around!
Like Helia said, 10 men, 2 plasma, banner and mark will do wonders, swap for meltaguns if you want some first-turn vehicle popping.

Note to the reader: my username is not arrogance. No, my name is taken from the most excellent of commanders: Lord Castellan Creed, of the Imperial Guar- I mean Astra Militarum - who has a special rule known only as "Tactical Genius"... Although nowhere near as awesome as before, it now allows some cool stuff for the Guar- Astra Militarum - player. FEAR ME AND MY TWO WARLORD TRAITS.

Storm Bolters are a waste on the Rune Priests largely as their Psychic Powers (which are rather good) are almost all Shooting attacks. The WTN is definitely a waste on the Rune Priest as the things with WS 5/6 are most likely to kill him in combat before he can even attack. Also, why 3 Rune Priests? Seems to be overkill.

The Wolf Lord is doing nothing so ditch him. That's just a waste of points not taking a worthwhile Melee weapon and no 2+ Save.

Mark of the Wulfen can only be taken by one Wolf Guard per Wolf Guard Pack. The real strength of Wolf Guard Terminators is the fact they come with Power Weapons (letting you choose a mix of Swords and Axes). They can also take Wolf Claws for cheap which can really put out the wounds. Going all Power Fists is generally expensive and a bad idea tactically. Also, the Mark means you aren't getting the Power Fist on that one model, since the Mark overrides your weapons.

And Terminators can't ride in a Rhino.

sweetdaddyg wrote:

You really do not want to skimp on your Troop choices in 6th Edition. Take more bodies! Only one can take a Power Weapon in each Unit. Also, walking is risky. The Rhino should be given to one of these. Consider Rhinos/Drop Pods for the other.

Kind of ecclectic. I realize it was probably made from a single Devastator box set. Also, you can only have 5 Heavy Weapons and 6 Long Fangs in a single pack, so you have too many weapons here. What's the Razorback packing?

sweetdaddyg wrote:
predator with autocannon, sponson lascannons and HK missile

predator with HK missile and lascannons (twin linked)

I'd drop the HK's on both Predators. I want to like Predator Annihilators (second one with the TL Lascannon) as a concept, but they are too expensive point wise. You are better off spending the points on more Long Fangs and giving them Lascannons.

sweetdaddyg wrote:

You have a lot of choices that are just wrong. As in either you described them as having wargear different than they do, or have given them wargear choices that aren't legal. You'll want to get those fixed!

I made some changes. Dropped two rune priests, expanded second wolf guard. Four squads of ten man grey hunters, one with a rhino, one with a razorback the rest on foot. Two squads of long fangs, one with missile launcher spam, the other plasma cannons, lascannon and multi melta for anti infantry. A Predator to keep large vehicles off my back....

might change the close combat weapon on the wolf lord to a frost blade and boltgun

lol, yea I had typed up a reply on my lunch break at work and forgot to hit "Submit". Saw your response after I already sent it and just thought "all well". Though I wouldn't cal the Talisman pointless since it stacks with the Runic Weapon (and Armor!), but definitely is a "well I have the points and nothing more worthwhile" item

FYI sweetdaddyg You can take a Razorback with a 10 man Grey Hunter squad, but it can only carry 6. Wasn't sure from your comment if you were taking it on a 10 man or a 5 man.

1. The Wolf Lord is useless without a Power Weapon minimally. All he does is beat face in close combat. He can't do that with AP - really.

2. Wolf Tooth Necklace on the Wolf Lord is useless for the most part; at most only 1 enemy model will be WS 6 typically, so paying 10 pts to hit that one model better is usually not a good deal. You want to avoid units of Genestealers (don't let them touch you!) so they're not a valid argument.

3. Wolf Tail Talisman is likewise a rather poor choice except for filler. While Psykers are popular, their aren't usually enough of them to warrant layering Psyker defense. Your Rune Priest is the best Psyker defense in the game so you won't see the WTT come into play much.

4. All of that goes double for the Rune Priest. The Rune Priest is already WS 5. Most HQ or hard close combat units will just eff him up in combat (no Invulnerable save) and the stuff he can handle he already hits on a 3+. So the WTN is pointless, and as mentioned he's already the best anti-psyker so may as well ditch the WTT.

5. Also, since the Rune Priest is not that terrifying in combat and doesn't get many attacks (he gets the same amount as a Wolf Guard, or Space Marine Sergeant), Saga of the Warrior Born is just a massive waste. Heck, it normally is even on a Wolf Lord. Saga of the Beastslayer is a solid choice, since it affects shooting attacks too, but only if you can spare the points.

6. Master of Runes is typically terrible as well. Its too expensive for what it does, especially compared to newer Codexes. Avoid it if you can.

7. Everything stated about the Terminators and Power Fists previously still holds. I'm assuming you are doing it because you have the models built that way.

8. Mark of the Wulfen is still a complete waste if you are taking any special weapon on a model, so don't waste the points on the Wolf Guard model with MotW.

9. Terminators need to be delivered. They are slow. Either Drop Pod or Land Raider is required for them to be effective.

10. Wolf Standards are still amazing on Grey Hunters. Plasma/Melta would be nice, especially on 10 man Grey Hunter squads. You want them able to deal with harder targets, their Bolters already handle basic infantry well enough (though I love me some Flamers sometimes).

11. Plasma Cannons are a tertiary choice at best on Long Fangs. Missile Launchers and Lascannons are preferable. Meltabombs are always a waste on the Long Fang Squad Leader (he's usually the first to die and will almost never see combat).

12. You can't take that many Heavy Support choices on one FOC, and you can't use 2 FOC unless you are playing 2000 pts or more.

FYI: Dropping the fat I talk about earlier frees up 150 Points (!) and that's without counting the fact you have to drop one of your 4 Heavy Support options since the FOC only allows 3. You got a lot of room to add things still.

Just wanted to add to a couple of points from Cowmonaut

HQ - Wolf Lord (1 model)
----------------------------
Weapon1: Close Combat Weapon
Weapon2: Bolt Pistol
Other Options: Wolftooth Necklace, Wolf Tail Talisman, Belt of Russ, Saga of the Bear, Frag and Krak Grenades

This guy is still a waste of points, either take a 2nd priest or dont take another HQ choice, as he stands all this guy can really do is kill a few orks or guardsmen a turn, and thats a waste of a wolf lords inate combat abilities.

HQ - Rune Priest (1 model)
----------------------------
1 Terminator Rune Priest
Weapon1: Runic Weapon
Weapon2: Storm Bolter
Other Options: Wolftooth Necklace, Wolf Tail Talisman, Master of Runes, Saga of the Warrior Born, Living Lightning, Jaws of the World Wolf

As mentioned before drop the WTN and MOR, along with SOTWB also what do you intend on doing with him? If he is in terminator armour he cant hop in the rhino or the pods as they all appear to be full, so he seems to be walking accross the board, either divination him and deploy him with fangs or find some space for him in a transport

Elite - Wolf Guard Pack (5 models)
----------------------------
5 Terminator Wolf Guard
Weapon1: Power Fist
Weapon2: Storm Bolter
Other Options: Mark of the Wulfen

If you are set on using this loadout that's fine but at least try to get some storm shields in there to tank some hits, with all the low AP CCW's around you are running the risk of losing a load of guys before they get to attack especially with only a 5+ Inv save. Drop MOTW on this squad if you are intent on taking these weapon loadouts

Elite - Wolf Guard Pack (5 models)
----------------------------
5 Terminator Wolf Guard
Weapon1: Power Fist
Weapon2: Storm Bolter
Other Options: Mark of the Wulfen

Same As Above

Troop - Grey Hunters Pack (10 models)
Options: Frag and Krak Grenades
----------------------------
10 Grey Hunters
Weapon1: CCW and Boltgun
Weapon2: Boltgun
Other Options: Mark of the Wulfen, Flamer

Get this squad in a transport for sure, also take the 2nd special weapon you get for free with a 10th Hunter, Wolf Standard is also a must

Troop - Grey Hunters Pack (5 models)
Options: Frag and Krak Grenades
----------------------------
5 Grey Hunters
Weapon1: CCW and Boltgun
Weapon2: Boltgun
Other Options: Flamer

Is this squad to stay at home and guard objectives? If so thats fine

Troop - Grey Hunters Pack (10 models)
Options: Frag and Krak Grenades
----------------------------
10 Grey Hunters
Weapon1: CCW and Boltgun
Weapon2: Boltgun
Other Options: Mark of the Wulfen, Flamer

Transport - Rhino (1 model)
1 Rhino
Weapon1: Storm Bolter
Weapon2: Hunter Killer Missle
Other Options: Smoke Launchers, Searchlight

Again make sure you make use of your 2nd assault weapon, also you need some short range anti tank or anti terminator so consider swapping for double plasma or meltagun on this pack - transport wise, either take all pods or all rhino's dont mix and match

Troop - Grey Hunters Pack (10 models)
Options: Frag and Krak Grenades
----------------------------
10 Grey Hunters
Weapon1: CCW and Boltgun
Weapon2: Boltgun
Other Options: Mark of the Wulfen, Flamer

Transport - Razorback (1 model)
1 Razorback
Weapon1: TL Lascannon
Weapon2: None
Other Options: Smoke Launchers, Searchlight

Ditto on the assault weapons
Razorback - what was the thinking behind this? If its for the Fangs why not just buy it for them, otherwise seems like an odd choice

Heavy Support - Long Fangs Pack (4 models)
Options: Frag and Krak Grenades
----------------------------
1 Long Fangs Squad Leader
Weapon1: Close Combat Weapon
Weapon2: Bolt Pistol
Other Options:

3 Long Fangs
Weapon1: Close Combat Weapon
Weapon2: Missle Launcher
Other Options:

Why the low numbers? One casualty and a LD Check?

Heavy Support - Long Fangs Pack (5 models)
Options: Frag and Krak Grenades
----------------------------
1 Long Fangs Squad Leader
Weapon1: Close Combat Weapon
Weapon2: Bolt Pistol
Other Options: Melta Bombs

4 Long Fangs
Weapon1: Close Combat Weapon
Weapon2: Plasma Cannon
Other Options:

Lot of points for this squad, i know its vicious if the templates all hit but the random nature of template weapons mean that they will rarely earn there points back

Heavy Support - Space Wolf Predator (1 model)
----------------------------
1 Predator
Weapon1: Autocannon
Weapon2: Lascannon Sponsons
Other Options: Smoke Launchers, Searchlight

Ok choice, but again more fangs would be better

Heavy Support - Space Wolf Predator (1 model)
----------------------------
1 Predator
Weapon1: Autocannon
Weapon2: Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Other Options: Smoke Launchers, Searchlight

Again ok choice (but it takes you over 3 Heavy Support choices unless your using double force org

I dont have my codex to hand but how about trying something like this think it should be there or thereabouts points wise, it uses what you seem to like in addition to some more sensible choices

HQ

Wolf Lord, Frost Axe, Storm Shield, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Meltabombs

Rune Priest, Chooser Of The Slain, Jaws, LL

Rune Priest, Divination

Troops

10 grey hunters, 2 plasma, wolf standard, mark of the wulfen, pod
