So I'm looking to start work on my Heresy Era Iron Warriors. I have already finished my Warsmith (legion preator) Forrix, the Triarch, in Cataphractii armor. He looks pretty legit, and I was pleased with how the head turned out after I shaved it down slightly to be bald. But the hazard striping leaves a bit to be desired. Any tips? I haven't seen any other articles discussing methods or theory in the forums yet.

If we can see the model, we can give better advice, so please consider uploading and posting one.

generic hazard striping tips:
- the yellow should go down first since you can't get very good yellow over black
- For the black stripes, either tape them off with masking tape or draw the boundaries with a micron pen or something, then fill in the black.
- If you're going to go the pen route, you can either do them on top of your finished yellow, or after your basecoat. If you do it after your basecoat, the yellow layers are transparent enough to let the pen lines show through.

When freehanding stripes on things like bolters, the trick I use is to paint the yellow first, then mark where the middles of the stripes should be on one edge (usually the bottom- remember you paint by pulling the brush, never push).

From those marks paint a diagonal line up to the other edge, then thicken the stripes out to the desired width. The advantage to this is you can adjust the thickness and spacing of the stripes as well as the angle if your initial line is off. Don't try and paint the whole line in one stroke and don't start at the edges - this is where you have to be precise and it's easier to work toward a line than to stay on it first time.

Well when my miniatures join me here in Kosovo (i'm currently part of the multinational peacekeeping force here) I'll add some pics. OH I have some on my FB. That might work. I knew the start with yellow before the black tip. Winterdyne I think I grasp what you're saying even though its hard to visualize. Like basically take every precaution to minimize failure and maximize ability to correct feth ups, got it.

I did a test batch of Iron Warriors recently. I did mine (below) by airbrushing the black stripes using a quick template I made with double sided sticky tape. Quick and easy, the stripes came out well I thought.
