I'm currently basing my Wolf Lord on TW mount. As I did a dry fit (he's being pinned), the mount's feet do not sit flush. It's a Secret Weapon Runic base, with quite a bit of texture. The two front feet are ok, as one is in static grass and that makes up the difference, and the other sits close enough that it isn't noticeable unless you know to look. The two back feet though are noticeable. One is almost 1/8th of an inch up. His pose is such that it's obvious he's standing in one spot. I'm not sure how to cover this up. My wife suggested I glue some clumps of moss and add some sand/dirt to match that molded into the base. I think that combo would be too busy and attract attention making it look like a cover up. However adding more sand/dirt by itself would work fine and be fairly easy to do once the model is in place.
One other idea brings me to the second part of my question. I could add a few clumps of snow to the base and use the snow to mask the floating foot. The rest of my SW up to this point have had bases of dark brown mud/dirt, grey stones, and snow. I am thinking of altering that just a bit by taking away the snow, or only doing it very minimally. When you guys make adjustments (rather than total redos) of your bases, do you go back and rework the previous bases or just keep going so you have a mix? The big difference I suppose would be tasteful additions of static grass, moss, and maybe some taller grass which does make appearances in some of my existing bases, and the lack of snow. The overall color scheme isn't changing, other than a bit more detail as my skill improves. Some of this, like the grass and such, could be added to some of the previous bases.
I think with the overall look, minus snow, it'll be ok and won't look out of place. I'm thinking of the terrain here in the Pacific NW of the US. We do get some snow, but not for long, and not often, and there's usually some green on the ground no matter what.
