So 13ish years ago I walked in to a Games Workshop in a mall and got to see the game, talked to some guys and thought about getting into the whole thing. My dad had given me and my brother the opportunity to get into an expensive hobby. Before anything could have been purchased (we had to wait a week to make sure we were still interested) life hit, parents split, etc.

Years later I've been invited for several weeks to come play with some friends at work. I finally bit played my first game. I was on a team with another new player/friend and we lost, but the defining moment was when I took a dreadnaught and punched a hole in the side of a tank and wiped it out in the last round. So I figured I'd keep an eye out on ebay for used models, good deals, etc.

I've always kind of followed along with lore and the video games, so I knew I'd want to play the Tau Empire. Found a deal on ebay, discussed it with my friend who's been playing for 15 years and he confirmed the deal and now I have a NIB Tau Battleforce (56-09x), the friend gave me another XV8 and 8 more Fire Team minis, and I just ordered the mini rulebook, templates and dice off ebay.

So this is going to be a big learning experience since I've never really put together anything other than legos. I have played Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures a few times and found it to be similar enough that I'm not completely lost while I played last weekend.

Anyways... Hi!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Hi and welcome!

Tau's a great choice, and a lot more interesting with the new codex. Be careful of jumping into things like Riptides or whatever the "giant" model is. It sounds like you're starting extremely sensibly, which is a great way to not get frustrated with expensive models under performing.

Also, modeling is a little tricky, but can be very soothing if you do it in the right mood.
