So I will be facing a friend in the next couple days. 1750 point match. There's a bunch of hype happening within our group for this match cause they think it will be very close and we kept trying to face each other for the first time in about 6 months. But the more I hear about his army the more I feel he's just gonna curb stomp me.
He likes to field a bunch of biovores and 2 Flyrants with a couple drop pod type unit with termagaunts. He also brings some of the guys that spawn gaunts.
I can field almost anything for the ork army minus stormboys. I kinda want to bring a green tide list. But I feel that I couldn't take out his big guys with that list. Biker nobz might work with some biker boyz. But even if I get the assault. He still would strike first. Plus he could kill them with his big guys. Str 10 hurts. I think a kan wall could work just because only his bigger guys would be able to hurt them. Battlewagons could work for the same reason. Or I could just bring a ton a dakka and tell him to come at me bro
I'm thinking tons of lootas with tons of shoota boyz maybe 2 boom guns. 2 dakka jets with fighter ace. And 2 big meks with a kff. And just make a nice wide army blob that moves as unit. To protect my lootas in the middle with shoota boyz all around. That way his drop pods will get a single turn before they are dead. And then target any Flyrants with dakka jets and lootas.
I'm not really looking for someone to build a list for me. But more or less advice on what Is a good approach against these nids. Cause I really don't want to get steamrolled. I feel that will happen.
Hopefully I'm in the right thread.
Thanks for any advice you could give

Most of the time I see this matchup, its boyz beating the living tar out of the Tyranids.

Um... what? A good Nids list will basically always tear apart Ork Boyz... If you are tailoring though, I'd say you need Lootas, and also units with lots of Powerklaws, like Nob Bikers. Basically you should concede that you'll be challenged by anything worth killing, so Klaws on Boy units are beyond worthless, as you'll almost always die first. DakkaJets could also be effective, but really stay away fro Hordes, if your opponent is any good he will crush you with the units listed.

Without significant volume of fire and area of effect, it is hard to deal with the Tervi-spam lists. Your best hope is to bring one down first turn with a good roll on the Lootas and manage to bring another down with Nob Bikers at some point. In sub-2k games, the Tervi list is hard to deal with as an Ork player.

A big Nobz bike squad is always difficult to get rid of. I'd throw that at him, he'll chase you, but you'll get to choose where to strike, and it'll be a hard fast strike he may not be able to overcome.

Well I can easily throw out 2 groups of 8 nob bikers each with a warboss on a bike and throw out 2 good groups of lootas and 2 dakka jets. Should more than take up 1750 points. But it seems pretty minimal models. I'm afraid he can drop some gaunts by my lootas and take them out.

move away, then shoot them. My friend and I are playing this same game right now, and I am scared of his lootas.
remember to hit him where he's weakest. The synapse creatures. Tervigons have a terible flaw, they "pop" all gaunts within 6" when it dies....and gaunts die to everything

Lootas are great against the troops, but the MC's, not so much. when they get iron arm for T9, there's not much you can do against them. so hope for first turn and shoot the ones with it before they get annoying.
Koptas help, they can ID quote a few things, and ignore most of their armor. Plus they can charge the troops and be extremely effective.
Burna wagons will ruin his day if he's going for a horde army.
I'd take the klaws on the nobs, if they strike at the same time with something, then go ahead and accept the challenge for all the rerolls.

Tankbustas work well on MC's, and don't have any of their annoying downsides as Nids have no vehicles.

I run a battle wagon/loota list, and when I face tyrannies I leave the boys in the battle wagons. Between the lootas and the dakkawagons, I shot all the nids off the board, and nothing the nids had could hurt the battle wagons

The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.
War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

Well it isn't set in stone but I'm thinking for my list
6 biker nobz (1 painboy 1 pk and bp 3 bc 1 waaaagh banner)troop choice
6 biker nobz (1 painboy 1 pk 3 bc 1 bc and bp)
Biker boss with cybork, pk, bp, attack squig
2x7 lootas
3x20 shoota boyz with nob (pk and bp)
Dakka jet with extra supa shoota and fighta ace.
I believe that gives me 5 more points to work with.. Anything you think I should change?

Nothing managed to reach a BW? They are only AV 10 on the back, and die fast in cc.
Dakkawagons work well vs Nids, to be sure, but they'll generally get something in CC range eventually.
Also, i take it your opponent doesn't use Zoanthropes ?

Burnas and Tankbustas may serve you better than lootas here. Krak missiles make most TMCs cry and nobody can throw more of them at something than the orks. Burnas also make trying to assault with hormies. ymgarls, and gargoyles an astoundingly terrible idea and Tyranids do not like template spam. As usual, shoota boyz will serve you better than sluggaz most of the time, and remember to always make Tyranids assault through cover. Tyranids have no frag grenades on anything that can make good use of it or is any good in assault anyway.
The Tyranids elite slot will usually be either Zoanthrope or Hive guard spam with maybe a ymgarl, Doom in a can, or Deathleaper in there. Lootas can punch through hive guard saves, but Tankbustas can do that and instant death the DoM or Zoanthropes. Hive guard spam is exceedingly good at double tapping nobz and eating light and medium vehicles or blasting through your Wagon's side armor, but it's rubbish against hordes. Zoanthrope spam can lay down pieplate hate or one shot just about any unit in the game with a warp lance or carry all sorts of biomancy powers to throw around buffs. They're only T4 though, so make sure to Id them.
Flyrants are a threat, but remember one good hit can force it to crash, and Dakkajets are perfect for getting those hits.
Tervigons should be blasted with rokkits and then forced into assault with anything that has a power klaw to punch past it's saves and toughness. The Termagaunts it will spawn are usually more of an annoyance than a true threat but they can still contest and hold objectives so watch out. Do remember though, that if their parent Tervigon bites it, they usually all die too. And if they have sacs and glands, the gaunts near them get sacs and glands too. And don't forget that they can also cast buffs, Catalyst in of itself is bad news as it can dramatically increase the toughness of tyranid units, and if it has crushing claws, do not under any circumstances get your vehicles close to it unless you want it to unleash 1d3+1 ap2 S10 smash attacks that reroll on armor pen and turn your vehicle into scrap.
Gaunts as a rule, have fairly lousy killing power but they can come in huge swarms (do remember though, that unlike your boyz who can still be good while remaining dirt cheap, gaunts need to take upgrades that can get real pricey real quick for large broods if they want to turn into killing machines) and hypergaunts (hormies+tsacs+adrenal glands) are terrifying to anything with T4 and under in assault. Devilgaunts are almost always seen in a pod, though the rare and ballsy player sometimes footslogs them, beware, S4 AP- Assault 3 at a range of 12' fired by a bs3 model may not seem like much, but when a whole brood is firing? That is a lot of dakka.
Biovores are very vulnerable to krak missiles, as it ignores their saves and forces instant death amongst them, let your rokkit spam and kannons shine and sow terror amongst his artillery.
Tervigons are also I1 unless they get warp speed, and if they have crushing claws they're still I1 all the time, though warp speed does let them have more attacks (2d3+1 S10 AP2 tank hunters attacks ) .
One guy who can faceroll most any Tyranid short of the big bad Swarmlord himself is Ghazghkull, with EW he gives no feths about boneswords or smash attacks, with a 2+ save at all times only TMCs, Rending claw units, and Bonesword warriors can pierce his save, with a 2++ save on his waaagh the aforementioned units do nothing to him, with a boatload of S10 attacks from his power klaw he can theoretically kill any single Tyranid unit in one turn of assault.
But remember he's only an unstoppable god of war for one turn only, then it's back to being a megaarmored warboss with EW and some more attacks.

Shoot his Tervigons with Lootas, force them alot of saves. Rokkits are not as effective, as they have a less shots (on average), and if you manage to wound it, it still has a cover save 4+ or 5+ and maybe a FnP save. This is also true for the Lootas, but they have a lot more shots.
Don't try PK Nobz in a boyz unit vs. a Tervigon , Hive Tyrant or Trygon Prime, they will be challenged and die. A Warboss on a bike is very usefull in this case, his T6 will keep him from being instant death'ed, and S10 will definitely cause some wounds. Also, Boyz are better than Gaunts, but they will often outnumber you, so pick your fights carefully.
You can certainly use Dakka Flyers to counter the Hive Tyrants, shoot them out of the sky and charge them with a Warboss on a bike.
Flamers are really good indeed, you could out them in a BW but I don't think that's mandatory. outside of their transport they still lay down alot of templates, and they are practically immune to infantry charging them, as they can overwatch, and in combat they are still boyz wit 2 S3 attacks.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh I did some math, my claim that Lootas are better then Tankbustas is not completely true :
10 lootas vs. T6, avr. 20 shots > 6.7 hit > 4.4 wound > (armour save 3+) > 1.5 actual wounds
10 Tankbustas vs. T6, avr. 10 > 3.3 hit > 2,7 wound > (cover save 5+) > 1.8 actual wounds
So Tankbutas are quite effective, and when they have no over save they are definitely better!
