Hello, all.

I am fairly new to the game and I chose Ogres and their Kingdoms for my army. My friend, a dedicated Dwarves player, is helping me along the way.

So, I ask you guys, what should I take, in a 4000 point list, to combat a gunline Dwarves army. He's pretty much going all out with a couple units of Thunderers and Quarellers, including Bugman and an Anvil of Doom.

I reeeeeally need help building a list. I have a rough idea of what I want, but I need expert input.

I was thinking of having at least one Slaughtermaster with the Lore of the Maw, in a unit of at least 10 Iron Guts with the Dragonhide Banner, and two Butchers with Lore of Beasts, both of which in a 10-Ogre unit. Accompanying them will be two Ironblasters and a Slavegiant, but I dunno if I should exchange one for a Thundertusk.

Also, I know I want Skragg the Slaughterer in the army, maybe to replace the Slaughtermaster, as well as a bunch of Gorgers to compliment his ability.

Please, I need some serious help

PM me if you want me to draw anything related to Warhmmer 40k. I will put it in my gallery for all to see.

4k points? You should have 3 hordes of bulls or ironguts. Support it with big juicy targets like stonehorns or thundertusks to draw fire from the blocks and take some artillery as counter battery to theirs.

Okay, but I'm looking for some specifics. How many Ironguts? How many Ogres? How many Shreks?

Well, if this is specific to fighting dwarves, the Rune Maw is pointless (as there is no offensive magic), as is the Hellheart (for the same reason).
Also, IMO sabretusks will lose a lot of their usefulness as the dwarves are slower, have a lot of shooting, and are generally in hordes/big units themselves. Personally I would run with multi-minimum trapper units, to protect your flanks and allow your ogre blocks a bit of security to punch through dwarven lines.
(btw, you may want to slip in the Ironcurse Icon if possible)

Yeah, I don't really see the Sabertusks doing much to Dwarves

It's kind of funny, but Leadbelchers can go toe-to-toe with Thunderers and be pretty well matched for cost. They cost almost exactly the same, both S4 AP shots, the Ogres will get .5 more shots but the thunderers get +1 to hit, but ogres are better in melee and can move and shoot. But the wounds, attacks of 3 thunderers is pretty much the same as 1 leadbelcher.

Mournfang are good because they have huge armor.

I'm not saying don't take Skragg, but you have to realize until he gets regen, he is just asking to be war machined. So he has to be really well protected. Gorgers coming from behind is fine, but don't expect them to do too much.

Having scraplaunchers, although everyone will disagree, will put a bunch of KB chances against his considerably larger pile of troops. Ironblasters are good just in the off chance you can shoot before him and try and take out his war machines. But it's often a losing proposition because all things being equal and a ~50/50 chance of both of you losing, yours cost more.

Ironguts are more likely to get through gromril armor but if he's not running anvils, bulls are fine.

Actually Scragg and Gorgers isn't a bad idea. Scragg can hide in one of the hordes so no worries there and the Gorgers can put pressure on his warmachines. You take 6 gorgers and some of them should show up turn 2 and be charging turn 3. He can either shoot them or shoot the hordes barreling down on them.

Thundermace is bad against dwarfs. Their T is high and armor is high and you don't have a ward save on your main caster. Call it Gutmagic btw. That's the cool term.

I like Greasus (I had an idea of using him as a stand-in for a Sky Titan army). But he's not that great against dwarfs. His Str is overkill because it's really good against monsters or numerous multi-wound things (like ogres). He gives up like 2-3 attacks. Stupidity isn't as good on Dwarfs cuz they have good LD. You could basically make a tyrant who is better for much cheaper.

3 Ironguts aren't going to do much. I'd say take out one whole line of bulls and the guts and either convert them to ironguts or get GW Maneaters or Ironfist or GW Mournfang. That would be some killy hammer who also have solid surviveability.
