*WARNING! NOOB ALERT! WARNING!*

I've just bought a 10 man box of Dire Avengers. As I wanted to do my own craftworld, I thought a deep purple would be nice. However, all of the Avengers I've seen are blue with a white helmet. Do they all have to be that set scheme? I'd prefer not to deviate from the real fluff of the eldar.

On that topic, is it the same with all the other aspects? e.g. Fire Dragons must be orange and yellow, Swooping Hawks have to be turquoise etc.

Many Thanks!

It's pretty much what you prefer, you can do them in craftworld colors (As seen in the current Eldar Codex), but usually they use their own aspect colors. So blue, white and all those colors.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Generally they're Blue with white/black/yellow as contrast colours. Nothing to stop you painting them whatever colour you want though, especially if you want them to tie in with your craftworld colour. Same with all aspects.

You can paint them any colour you want! I have a couple squads painted a sort of blue-green and some more grey-white. As long as you pick 1-2 strong vibrant colours to go with, then weapons and details like gems for contrast, they will look fine.

It's actually varied a little over the years. The original background had aspects firmly in their own colours, rather than tied to a craftworld. That's evolved a little over the years, and a lot of players either ignore the aspect colours entirely, our go for a theme that matches their army while just working the aspect colours in as a secondary colour. Helmets or sashes are a great place to carry that across.

It's really up to you how you want to paint your little plastic space elves. Personally I try to keep the aspects in their shrine colors, but I'll add the craft world colors in somehow. Usually how I end up doing it, I'll paint the bodies in the aspect colors, so blue for the dire avengers, and then the helmets I will paint in my craft world color, grey or orange for Yme-loc. then with the exarch for the squad, I invert the scheme, grey/orange body, blue helm. I think it ties the shrine and the craft world together beautifully.

Oh stop complaining, its for the greater good... Now get in the box!

Like you I personally prefer not to deviate too much from the fluff. So my DA are blue witn white helms BUT I use my craftworld's color for the hair on the helmets instead of the yellow and black on the box.

Nice little twist while staying close to the fluff.

I decided to go the route of tieing into the craftworld scheme with some decorative items paying homage to the aspect shrine. Here's how I did my Biel Tan Fire Dragons

I don't have and have never painted any Eldar, but I do High Elves and the units for them outside of the basic spears and bows tend to come from a specific principality within the Elf lands and they have colors typically tied to that.

But I think of it like this. Some noble, or for you craftworld, raises an army with components from different places and pulls them together under his banner/colors. So, I'm redoing all of my elves in greens - still debating if I'm sticking with that. But the point is, they may come from somewhere else, but once their under your craftworld's flag, they wear what you tell em to.

Yeah, that's not quite how Eldar work.

Once they've finished their aspect training, they have a color set associated with them, right? As does the craftworld, right? So, if the craftworld raises an army with components from different *aspects* and pulls them together... yes, it's not exactly the same, but the idea for color schemes works. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but unless I'm totally missunderstanding the way they work (entirely possible) the thinking in regard to color is roughly similar.

Yeah, Aspects may have a Shrine on a particular Craftworld, but they're not specifically tied to that Craftworld in the way that Guardians are. Their primary focus is on their Shrine, not the Craftworld.

I try to keep either the helmets or the bodies traditional colours. For my Dire Avengers, I did the traditional blue, but then made the spirit stones, face plates, and crest all have orange to tie in with my army. I did the same thing with my scorpions and reapers, but I put in a lot more custom colours on my spiders and hawks.

I did all of my aspects about 80% - 90% in Aspect color (although a couple of them I changed the color scheme on) and 10-20% Craftworld color, to give a little bit of unity to the whole thing. Mostly, that was shoulder pauldrons: everyone's got green Craftworld colored shoulder pauldrons, which are up high and obvious so you see that color. Dire Avengers had a bonus: they Exarch's flag got done up in Craftworld color and symbol, making it more obvious.

That worked pretty well, overall. Better with things like the Dire Avengers, where the green goes well with the blue, and less well with the Fire Dragons, where the orange and green are a little eye-gouging.
