Subject: Math-hammer help needed - Sternguard or Shootinators?

So one tactic I'm using is to put a librarian in a shooty squad, and have him gate of infinity to a drop pod with locator beacon to avoid any deepstrike mishaps.
My question is which unit would be worth more in points - sterguard with Libby, or Terminators with assault cannon and libby? I'm inclined to put the libby in TDA to give him relentless, so he can then use vortex after stepping out of the gateway.
I think Sternguard will do more shooting damage (thoughts on load out would be appreciated too, as I don't know them well enough), though I'm also trying to weigh in the increased survivability of the terminators to this too.
Can anyone help please?

Depends on how you load them out really, but I would say Terminators in this case. If you wanted suicide Sternguard, just spend the points on a Drop Pod. You don't need to Gate them then. But really you have an opportunity here to setup a few Locator Beacons around the table near objectives, and thus the ability to respond to the enemy with a hard unit (Terminators) no matter what he does. That's more valuable IMO.

Sternguard are great, but if you're going lots of deepstrike, going heavy shooty termie + locator beacons/tele homers can be very scary, especially with termies flying down from the sky wherever they're needed.
Just to ask, though...any reason why you don't want to bring both?

If you are using locator beacons, consider the heavy flamer over the assault cannon. In general, it will kill more models.

You could always combine the two. Take the Librarian in Termie armour with Sternguard, and position the deep-strike so he's in front. Take saves on 2+ until he loses a wound, at which point start using LOS!.
