Can you model DCA and Crusaders from the Grey Knights codex with any power weapon, even though the model has a sword? Would it be considered "modeling for advantage" in a tournament?

If you run into the wrong person I'm sure they'd say that taking a Multi-Melta in a Tactical squad is MFA since the Tac box doesn't come with one...

Yes. This question gets asked alot and yes you can convert the weapon to be whichever sort of PW you want (WYSIWYG preferably). Taking different PW's on the DCA (since they get two) means you get more versatility.

In most codices, there is at least one model who can buy a "power weapon." The rules for the specific weapon (axe, lance, sword, maul) depend on what the model is holding--Quanar already mentioned WYSIWYG. Read the BRB regarding power weapons, it says basically this.

For most casual games you can give the DCA whatever 2 weapons you want to give them.


In a tournament, it is up to the TO. it is their even and they are the boss. I have ran into one who said that DCA had to have 2 power swords. Ask the TO if you are going to an event.

Did he have any rules to back up his claim, or did he just dislike Coteaz lists?

Just point him to the unit entry for DCA and ask him to show you where it says 'swords'.

The thing is that the TO can do whatever they want. They want to add comp rules, ignore rules, ignore options, they can do what they want. It is their event and if you do not like how they run it, you can choose not to participate.

There was no real "rules" basis for this, and it was simply a RAI call from one particular TO.
