Subject: 8th Cadian PDAAG(Planetary Defense Advise and Assist Group)
Through some various inspiration on the board, I decided to come up with some fluff for an IG army I am planning on working and converting. You might recognize some similarities to modern conflicts, as some of it has come from my experience and what I've seen here on my mission in Afghanistan. I wanted to base them off the 8th cadian, since I plan on using their decals and general paint schemes. Enjoy!
8th Cadian PDAAG(Planetary Defense Advise and Assist Group)
Spoiler:
The 8th Cadian PDAAG was formed in 998.M41 by Lord Castellan Creed when he received orders to send a detachment to Pashtonia Prime, a newly reclaimed planet to assist in suppressing an insurgency. He hand and picked from his best guardsman and adjutants, and formed the PDAAG, Planetary Defense Advise and Assist Group, which we would send to the planet to advise their PDF in fighting suppressing rebellion. When they arrived they found the PDF in disarray. Ill equipped, not sufficiently trained, and often lacking in the motivation to fight their Pashtonians, they lazily sat around inside of their Observation Posts, while the shadow government moved around freely. Armed with the latest and greatest equipment the 8th Cadian and the Imperial Guard have to offer, they went to work almost immediately.
Initial patrols with the newly raised PDF revealed large gaps in logistics and combat discipline. Though not a forgeworld they manufactured their own vehicles, which usually packed the proper armor, and a due to governmental failure, they lacked proper maintenance in the outlying districts. In Contact the PDF would spray into the direction of enemy fire, hoping to suppress the enemy long enough to retreat to their outpost, or less likely, kill their attackers. Their advisers did everything they could training them into something to fight against, even with their poor equipment, and logistical issues.
Within six months, enemy tactics changed drastically. Incapable of directly fighting the PDAAG, the shadow government that controlled everything outside of the immediate view of the Pashtonian government and despite Cadian efforts, often laid traps in well traveled lines. Unable to adapt quickly, both the Cadian PDAAG, and the Pasthonia PDF suffered massive casualties. The hardened guardsman of the 8th Cadian also developed new tactics, techniques, and procedures. They were used to fighting in platoon or company sized elements, and due to the nature of the mission moved around as one or two squads with the PDF forces, who did operate in platoon and company sized groups. This maximized the capabilities of the PDAAG to advise and assist their counterparts.
Equipment that the 8th PDAAG used was also modified from standard pattern equipment. Lasguns were shortened to reduce weight for men moving around dismounted, though it reduced max effective range. However when it came to longer ranged firefights they relied on medium stubbers that could be carried by one or two guys efficiently on rough terrain, or vehicle mounted weapons such as the Multilaser or Autocannon. Alternate patterns of helmets began showing up, as it was much lighter than standard Cadian helmets, but still offered the same benefits. Vox equipment became lighter as they switched from standard frequencies that pushed out farther, to shorter frequencies that used the vehicles as repeaters. This also allowed batteries to be made smaller, and antennas shorter.
Chimeras also received some modifications, such as the turret being moved back, to allow the driver to turn out, thus giving better situational awareness when driving on tight or bad roads. Mine rollers were fixed to the front of the vehicle to reduce the likelihood of casualties from mines on the road. It often became SOP for units to have men standing in the rear hatches to provide more efficient 360 degree security, so the rear hatches were enlarged, and armor was placed around where men where exposed. In addition camo nets were placed over back half of the hull to shade crews, who often moved in a turned out state, and to break up the general outline of the vehicle at security halts. Anti-rocket cages were placed around the vehicles vulnerable areas due to the fact that the main anti-vehicle weapon of the rebels was shoulder fired rocket and missile launchers.
To this day, the men of the 8th PDAAG continue their mission on Pashtonia Prime fighting the rebels on a daily basis. They remain determined, as does the enemy, and the conflict is far from over. The following are their tales of heroism, in victory, and defeat.
Once I start my project and put it onto a table, I plan on updating regularly with pictures, as a psuedo-battle report, but in a fiction format.

When is the first bit coming out? Can you post the spoiler instead of using that button to reveal? I don't think many people will click on it, because - to be honest - it kind of looks a little dodgy. On my computer it does, anyway - perhaps it's supposed to show more than a button and an empty box?
