Just got a nib oop whirlwind model off eBay. And I'm debating on whether or not to open it and put it together.

A new day, a new time zone.

Well, whirlwinds in general aren't all that good right now, but it's certainly not going to be doing any good at all if you leave it boxed.

Would it be a good idea to keep the box?

This is the model I'm talking about.

Warhammer isn't really a 'collectible' hobby in the sense of comic books or rare action figures. Fifty years down the line your mint condition still-in-shrinkwrap whirlwind you kept in a UV-protected airtight vault won't be paying your kids college tuition or be worth much more than whatever a whirlwind will end up costing in 2063. Though given the rate of price increases, your whirlwind may very well be worth several hundred dollars at that point!

Thank you for giving me that bit of insight. I'll build it after I finish the paint commission I'm working on.

Are you kidding me? DA whirlwinds are the gak.

Ignore cover, long range and S5AP4 blasts. They are perfect anti-Tau weapons.

Three Color Minimum

I assembled one of those back in early 3rd...it was not enjoyable.

Thank god the days of part metal part plastic are gone.

I have one of those! : D

I spattered its front with red paint and an old toothbrush to simulate blood spatter! : D

I'm pretty sure it's severely broken right now; I wasn't exactly kind to my minis in those days.

Clearly you are unaware of GW's current model for the SoB Exorcist? I assembled three of those damn things. The latest three I paid someone else to do.

To OP: Go ahead and assemble it! It won't kill any Xenos, Heretics, or Traitors still in its box!

There is a fine line between genius and insanity and I colored it in with crayon.

I put mine together with minimal issues.

However, after putting together two Penitent Engines, I learned, and used big gobs of green stuff to help adhere the metal to each other and the plastic.

The worst part of the Exorcist, I found, was the gunner and the skeleton or servitor or whatever that feeds the rockets in.

However, if I decide to get more Exorcists, I'll pay the extra 45 dollars and get an Immolator kit and a Whirlwind kit, and add the Whirlwind's turret to the Immolator body. With a little filing, it fits decently well. And it can also be swapped with other Immolator turrets on the fly to make an Immolator or Rhino. ^^
