So im at a cross roads, I need an ally for my IG and prefer if its another imperial force. I have a DA contingency but i feel they are just too shooty and with my IG im looking for a force that can apply some good cc goodness while having enough range to not be totally useless outside of cc. My main problem is i cant decide between Space Wolves, Blood Angels, or Black Templar. Yeah i know, black templars? arent they way too outdated? probably but i like em. So in the contex of the army we shall say im running 1500 and 1000 of that is guard, just shooty gunline guard with LRBT and a Basilisk. So i need a small force of up to 500 pt that can hold a line and protect my cardboard kingdom or another route would be to be able to drop in and preform emergency surgery on the enemy. Not worried about competitiveness but feel free lol.

Seems the consensus is that Space Wolves allies are the best. Typical SW outfit would be runepriest (divination + magic protection), 2 x melta grey hunters + a third pod with long fangs. Slightly more than 500 pts I think. Idea is the rune priest link up with a guard blob, two pods with grey hunters drop on turn 1 as a major distraction. Third pod arrives empty and long fangs deploy on table.

Being in more or less the same situation as you I think I'll go for Grey Knights. They were not on your list, but you might want to check them out. I think I'll go for two strike squads + an inquisitor and sports a lot of 24" S5+ shooting and insta-kill force weapons. Not battle brothers though. I have a few tanks left to finish before I decide for sure.

Came to post exactly this. You can also opt to give the Rune Priest the Prescience power from the BRB to make an entire Guardsmen blob fire as twin-linked

Well i kinda knew the strengths of the IG+SW combo cause yeah it has been up a few times lol but mainly I want to hear about BA or BT before I decide what kind of allies ill run. Thanks tho for elaborating on the SW more, i see the army list everywhere but didnt know to well how it was being ran.

As for GK, trust me I thought for a long time on them lol, they are so awesome both game and fluff wise and to be honest they are still in my mind as a potential ally the only problem i have zero experience with them on the table, only what i pick up off battle reports

if you run BA they are great with multiple Blobs, 3x priests that can attach as IC to 3 blobs giving ATSKNF to each, as well as FNP for themselves, bringing along some deep strike units (assault Marines in Drop Pods) they are great at fillining blanks as well as the Baal Flamer tank that (if i remember correctly) can outflank with some good cover denying attacks.

Any BT players have any advice?
