Through the looking glass

Alright guys, a local player in my area has challenged the local players to a game of warmachine. He says whoever can beat him will win a prize. It's a 21 pt game, and I'm 99% certain it will consist of eThag, typhon, and nothing but shredders. I'm a circle player, and I've played him before and got thrashed. While I don't believe in list building, I think he's throwing out the challenge because of how well it's done against...well...everyone. So, with 21 pt to spend, I need to make the most list tailoringest army I can. I know he does the whole Rabid+Manifest+feat thing.

So what do I have that can stop this frustrating list? I know there's Lanyssa. Outside of her I'm not sure what to do.

Mohsar seems like a good counter to that shredder spam list. Sunhammer will do significant damage to shredders and mohsar's feat can lave Thag fury-starved when he thought he was going to have more than enough. You can use pillars of salt to help shield your front line.

I tried that last time....sorta

I put pillars up, but they were too far up field and thag hit them all with a single spray and destroyed them. I'll remember to keep them closer this time at least.

Also, the shredders serve no fury related purpose. He runs them up fully expecting them to frenzy. They'll be in my face if anything so chances are they'll be hitting me again anyway.

I've considered sun hammer, but d3 just doesn't seem like a whole lot of hurt.

I've gone over different ideas for a list. I can either have a few heavies that can reliably kill but are vastly outnumbered, or have several lights that can usually kill, not too outnumbered, but also rather kill able. At 21 pts everything I've read says dont bother with troops.

Consider: a shredder has a spiral of 4 4 and 5. Sunhammer and
some light shooting should do the trick. Try Sunhammer, blood trackers
and /or woldstalkers.

I'd consider pBaldur. His feat negates pathfinder and makes all the terrain around him "rough" for the enemy. This should slow down the shredders enough for you to deal with them.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Kruger could possibly be good. Electro-leap can do some serious damage to Shredders. Stick Lightning Tendrils on Skinwalkers for some nice extra E-leap damage, plus the ton of attacks they bring(if you bring the UA)

It does when you only have 13 HP to begin with.

At 21 points, eThag will have Typhon and six Shredders. I'm guessing he's looking for two angles to win the game:

1. Knock you down with Scourge and then zerg you with Shredders or blow you away with Typhon sprays.

2. Hope to weaken you enough that eThag or Typhon can run riot.

Not a Circle player, but a list I would consider running as an FU hate build:

-eBaldur (+5)
-Megalith (11)
-Ghetorix (11)

22 points, with 4 left to flavor: maybe Shifting Stones and a Wilder.

The idea is to put yourself beyond an easy Scourge assassination, as well as make it difficult for his Shredders to actually contribute to the battle. Both Megalith and Ghetorix (in melee) are ARM 22 with Roots of Earth up, which is dicey for Shredders to deal with even taking Manifest Destiny into account. With good placement you can also use Rock Wall to prevent them from getting into melee easily (Shredders can charge over it with Rabid up, but they can't stop on top of it so place it accordingly). That leaves Typhon and eThag: Typhon will have trouble cracking ARM 22, and you want to make sure that the minute eThag decides to fight for himself that he's putting himself at a high risk of being outright assassinated (e.g. in charge range of one of your warbeasts, or in charge/Shifting Stones Teleport range of eBaldur with a few Wurm tokens).

Easier said than done, but if you're list tailoring that's the one I'd try rolling with.
