I may be a little early on this but the new codex is now released so I believe it's officially time to start talking about this.

Simple: what do you think? What units are better now, what are worse?
Any newcomers or something you should leave at home from now on?
Is the new codex competitive?

And with this new Codex I'm planning to start Eldar now.
I have 10 DA, Farseer and 3 Warlocks. Where to build from this?

Edit ~ (Not sure if this is the place for this?)

The battleforce is currently a good buy as the units contained are all worth taking.

You will need more troops choices - rangers, more dire avengers, guardians, or guardian jetbikes. All good. Warlocks can accompany the guardian units.

Then probably think about some MCs or tanks from the heavy support section, and/or some aspect warriors from the elites or fast attack section.

At this moment in time, lots of people can tell you what looks good/bad from the new codex, but it will take time for a consensus to develop. So go nuts and experiment.

Hey all,

Please check out my codex review which tries to answer the qu. of codex competitiveness

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/530592.page

In summary I believe yes, some units are better than others but they're a lot of really good units and it has the potential to cover all the bases well and could easily be a very strong 'dex.

Right now I'm trying to make a decision as to which is better at 1500 points (at 1750 I'm totally running both) in a mostly fast-moving list:

A: 3 Vypers with Scatter Laser and Shuriken Cannon (210)*
B: 10 Warp Spiders, Exarch with Fast Shot and Twin-Linked (215)

The Vypers are putting out 21 S6 shots @24" (just under half of them twin-linked) but only have an effective 6 T6 wounds and a 5+ cover save.

The Spiders are putting out 25 S6 (possibly S7) shots @12", with 10 T3 wounds and a 3+ armor save.

Strangely enough, the Warp Spiders are actually also more potentially mobile than the Vypers (especially since you can keep shooting with them while moving around).

It's a tough choice for me, because I do love my skimmers, and the ability to stand off at 24" is very useful.

*: Vypers with dual Shurcannons come out at 180 and were my default choice last codex but upgrading to the Scatter seems a no-brainer for 30 points across the squadron and coincidentally also makes them practically equal to the Spiders in cost for purposes of this discussion.

C: 3 Vypers, 1 w/ scatter laser, 2 w/ star cannons, all with shuriken cannons

Scatter laser is going to hit, making you have 4 TL star cannon shots. You should never really put more than one scatter laser in a unit because you lose value as scatter lasers can't TL eachother.

Go with Warp Spiders if you like the models, they are really fun. The Vypers are a little quicker to play as you don't move them in every phase (move, shoot, run, jump)

AV10 open topped skimmers. Still way overcosted. At 40 points with brightlance i would consider them, but at 55? no. Warp spiders every day.

Not the case. Laser-Lock only applies to the model with the Scatter Laser, not the unit.

(Note: watching people realize this after thinking Guardians with a SL platform were going to be an awesome unit was really, really sad.)
