I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to how SM chapters decided where and when to
Deploy the first company Landraiders? And also how are they deployed?
Does the chapter master send a single Landraider out as needed or does he deploy them as a squadron?
Do Landraiders only get used by first company or are they used by battle companies as well?
I know a lot of this is chapter dependent but Im just looking for some more fluff to go on.

Hopefully this is the right place for this post, if its not I'm sorry.

Oh, The reason I'm asking this question is that I am trying to paint an accurate SM force for epic40k.

Thanks

When going on Campaign a Captain picks what he wants from the armoury and then asks the Chapter Master and the Master of the Forge if he's allowed. Other troops, such as Veterans, are deployed by the 1st Captain, Chapter Master, or requested by the Captain in question.

Land Raiders are usually part of the Armory of a chapter. Sometimes the first company and the chapter master have their own Land Raiders.
Like most of the tanks ( Predators, Vindicators, Whirlwinds, etc ) the Land Raider is deployed by T-Hawk ( transporter ) or a landing craft ( epic armageddon ). You could find them in armored columns or spearheads, as personal vehicle of the local command staff.
Basically only a few venerated vehicles and maybe a pimped boss-mobile of the CM differ from the basic chapter paint-scheme.

1st Co is lead by a captain and operates where the HQ of a chapter sends them. They are split up between deployed forces of a chapter or in some rare events gathered in one place. They may have Land Raiders as transports.

A Land Raider can operate almost eveywhere, alone or in squads. Makes a nice strongpoint of any armored advance.

HQ decides who is sent and what they get. If a company returns almost wrecked vehicles to regularly, they may not have a chance to ride in a LR....

Terminators either drop pod down, get on thunder hawks (and the thunder hawk has a type of mechanical claw that carriers the land raider down) and deploy down into the planet or they get somebody (usually scouts) to place homing beacons and they teleport down.

Just a heads up, at one time GW made a the THawk variant that transported landraiders in epic scale. Might find one on ebay I suppose.

To clarify and confirm, only T-Hawk transporters can carry armored vehicles. The standard T-Hawk I believe can only carry a Dreadnought.

I don't think they do... Fairly sure they only use Teleport systems or direct (Land Raider) transports.

Feel free to correct me though, not 100%

I believe only Dreadclaws had the ability to carry Terminators (Or I may have confused it with carrying a Dreadnought), but yeah I'm pretty sure that aside from that Terminators don't drop pod.

That is correct, the standard thunder-hawk can carry standard marines, termies, a dreadnought, bikes and attack bikes.

Space Wolves termies (wolf guard) don't have teleportation and get a Drop Pod as a dedicated transport

"Do you smell that, brother?"
"Surely it is the food of the Emperor!"
"It must be the homing bacon! Zero in on that smell and deploy!"
