Hi folks,
Given the fragility of the Crimson Hunter, it's a real big plus to have it enter the table on after the enemy flyer has turned up. My question is whether there is any rule that prevents my flyer turning up on my board edge and flying off the side in a diagonal move in the same time - essentially putting it back in reserve until turn 3?

Check the BRB FAQ, I believe this is covered there.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Why do you even need the FAQ? P. 80 of the brb says you can't enter and leave the board on the same turn.

Where at on P.80, I am not seeing it.

This sentence?

"providing that the resulting move will not carry it off the board again." P.80

That does not say

(Emphasis mine)

That is talking about the initial move onto the board. That initial move can not "carry it off the board again." but Flyers can use a flat out move and there is no restriction on the flat out move like there is on the initial movement phase move.

Yeah gotcha, although the OP seemed to be talking about moving in a way that'd be out of the board (to me), going flat-out would make it work. My bad

flyers as per the FAQ still cannot leave combat airspace the same turn they arrive

Q: Can a Flyer or Flying Monstrous Creature Leave Combat
Airspace on the same turn that it entered play from
Reserves/Ongoing Reserves? (p49/81)
A: No – the owning player must deploy and move their Flyer
or Flying Monstrous Creature in such a way that this does
not happen.

notice that leaving combat airspace is what is disallowed, not a particular method of it, so it doesnt matter how you leave combat airspace, the answer is "no"

Right, this FaQ changed the rules, and as such was needed to stop people from using the flat out move to exit the battlefield, as pre FaQ this was allowed.

That answers helotaxi's question nicely.

No, this clarified it. Nowhere did it say a flyer could leave the table with a flat out move. Only with a zoom move; and the rule said its initial move onto the table could not take it off the table (its initial move was a zoom move.)

So no attempting to go flat out off the table.

No, this clarified it. Nowhere did it say a flyer could leave the table with a flat out move. Only with a zoom move.

It actually changed the rules.

It says a Zooming flyer can make a Flat out move of 12-24 inches.

"Flyers can usually only make a special kind of move called Zoom. Some can also Hover" P. 80
"A Flyer with the Hover type must declare whether it is going to Zoom or Hover before it moves each Movement phase" P. 81

It also says that a flyer has to declare whether it is going to Zoom or Hover. If a flyer declares zooming, it stays zooming until its next movement phase where it declare whether it is going to Zoom or Hover again. we know it is still zooming because the Hard to Hit rule states "Shots resolved at aZoorning Flyer..." The flyer that used zoom is still zooming in your opponents turn.

If a flyer declared it was going to Zoom then, when moving flat out, it is still zooming and can leave the table.

We know it is still zooming because "A Zooming Flyer that goes Flat Out" P.81

and the rule said its initial move onto the table could not take it off the table (its initial move was a zoom move.)

So no attempting to go flat out off the table.

A flyer is zooming or hovering until it declares, on its next movement phase, if it is going to zoom or hover.

The flat out move is not the initial move so it can go off the table with a flat out move, but only if it is not the same turn as it entered the table, because the FaQ changed the rule.

A Zooming flyer makes a Zoom move and may make a flat out move.

Two different types of move. (yes its hard to understand as Zooming Flyer and Zoom Move do sound similar)

P81 says "Its quite likely that a Flyer making a Zoom move will leave the table, either diliberetly or by accident.

No rules exist for a Flat out move to exit the table, only a Zoom move (which is again different from a Zooming Flyer, a zooming flyer gets the hard to hit rule and maybe one or two others.)

Its abit technical but easy to misunderstand.

Flyers either Zoom or Hover.

If they flay out they are still Zooming or hovering.

That's right, if they are zooming then they are hard to hit and they can only leave the table with a zoom move.

Zooming flyers can flat out as well...

"A Zooming Flyer that goes Flat Out must move forwards in a straight line between 12" and 24"." P.81

They zoom when flat out moving.

The rules equate Zoom and Zooming.
