So me and my friend had a game, where I took orks with tau allies and he took space marines.
He used deep strike to get his assault terminators near my troops, and charged my nob squad.
There was a squad of fire warriors with the supporting fire special rule.
"Any friendly unit within 6" of the unit being charged gets to fire overwatch"
Can my fire warriors (within 6") use the supporting fire special rule to overwatch the assault terminators?
Do the ork nob squad count as friendly units?
We settled it by rolling off but my nobs beat them anyway!
Thanks for your help

1. Go to FLGS on a 40K game night.
2. Announce to no one in particular "I have over 10,000 points of Space Marines".
3. Sit back and watch as some 30-ish Neckbeard who still lives with his parents not only disputes your claim, but goes on to describe his 30,000 points of Blood Angels and how he has been playing since Rogue Trader days... And yet you will have never seen him either play 40K or that army.
4. From here, you have several options. Continue the conversation, or just end it. Either way, I guarantee you will waste 1+ hour of your life talking to this guy. Have fun!

Check the Ally Matrix to see what level of allies Orks and Tau are. Then read how the units interact for tat level.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Read the bold text under "Allies of Convenience" on page 112
And Terminators can't charge the turn they arrive from Deep Strike.

See page 125. The paragraph in bold directly before "Ongoing Reserves".

I have been re-reading allied rules now and then because they can lead to gray areas. This is not one such situation at least, these rules where written for the situation you put forth. Yet how it is worded, and how it interacts with other rules, can lead to some not so straight forward situations that can lead to different outcomes depending on your interpretation of the allied section of the rulebook. There was a youtube video that someone showed me from a group calling themselves cheese hunters. It outlined quite a few problems that occur when you treat the allied model as an enemy model, with no restrictions. On top of their obvious complaints, they where primarily talking about scoring concerns, I can foresee other illogical situations occurring if you treat allied detachments as 'enemy models' in all situations. This has me believing you ignore the enemy model rule, except those where the two detachments are interacting with each other in some way.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |

Actually, this is not an issue. The rules state that " Units in your army treat Allies of Convenience as enemy units..." - you as a player still treats them as your own units. This means they score for you as normal, and all rules that applies to your own models apply to the allied detachement as well. It's only when your units interact with eachother that the term "enemy unit" has any bearing on them.

Reviewed this, hate trying to interpret FAQs as they go fairly poorly with me. Even a single miss placed word can change the whole meaning of paragraph. The word to note in the sentence, the one I missed, is Note. It is clear now it really was just an clarification because, I guess, some people had that argument and they wanted to ensure people knew what I would of argued was clearly written already. I'm going to stop over thinking the duel use of a term here and just keep going as played.
