So I was playing this game today. My tau XV8 suits with Fusion Blasters were in a bad position. I'd protected the left flank from krak missiles with a solid wall of drones, but the right side was exposed.

Of course my opponent (legally) moves his Stormtalon into position behind my XV8s. It has krak missiles.

It scored, for the wound pool; 3 Assault cannon wounds, one of which was a rend as well as 1 wound from a krak missile. I knew one of my XV8s had to die, I couldn't pass it off to a drone, so I did something rather underhanded, I'm just wondering if it was strictly speaking legal.

As I understand it, wounds must go onto the closest man first, only moving on if he is killed or if they are look out sired. I am not required to do them in any order of AP or strength.

With that in mind, I rolled my first of two armour saves, it. I then rolled my second armour save, saving it too. I then took the rend on my XV8, dropping it to 1 wound and killed him off with the Krak missile.

Was this legal?

Only if that was the order that your opponent designated that they were to be taken. I would doubt he would have chosen that order if they were just XV8s and all armed the same.

You can do that but your opponent would be a fool.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

p.15 of BRB is pretty clear on this:

"lf, after rolling To Wound, the Wound pool contains groups of Wounds with different Strengths, AP values or special rules [...] You, as the shooting player, get to
choose the order in which these groups are resolved."

so my opponent gets to order my wounds, rather than my doing so?

Edit: thanks, Genius.

That is very different. That's gonna make me even more conservative with my suits now. Thanks.

I don't mean to be rude, but my rulebook is at an arms length right now. Can you give me a quote for that? I'd appreciate it, Lit.
