Question for space wolves (or few actually). How does one distinguish for the table mark of the wulfen, a banner (can you use that one that sticks on top of the backpack rather than the ££££ model?), or a wolf guard leader for example? My thanks...

You just need to mark it somehow.

You could make the model much more wolf-y than usual (pick the heads with the most hair and teeth, give them more agressive poses).

Since you seem to want a temporary solution, a magnetic banner, a logo/icon that sticks to the base, etc. would all be workable.

The Mark of the Wulfen can be a wolfier looking model (Puppets War has great werewolf heads/arms) or a tattoo or something. The banner can easily be one of the back banners you get in tactical squad boxes and the Space Wolves box. Wolf Guard Leaders are supposed to have Wolf Guard markings, but as long as their equipment is WYSIWYG, you should be fine.

I use the most feral looking heads I can find, and then us Genestealer hands, it's usually pretty clear. I have also done many of them up in a scene of recent gore. The last ones have been decapitating and/or eviscerating orks.

I've never seen a Space Wolf player actually mark it.

So far I have done it like in the codex, a tattoo over the eye, but honestly I don't use it often.
I have seen one SW player who gave the marked marines a pair of axes to distinguisch them. Using the wolf-like helmests from the GH box might also be a good choice. With magnets youd could make them easily exchangable.

More angry looking dude for the wulfen, use a unique head that you haven't used in the rest of the squad and use a dynamic pose.

I would use a back banner of icon for a wolf banner

kick ass weaponry useing bits no other model in your army has would make a wolf leader stand out... another good stand-by is to stick characters on a rock

A friend of mine uses a specific SW head with giant hair that makes him stand out and makes them blonde, where the rest are usually darker haired. Easy enough to pick him out that way.

I use a banner, myself - one of them is shaped like a wolf head with a knife in its mouth, so I just slapped that on the backpack of a Gray Hunter.

In addition to modifying mine with Genestealer hands and aggressive head choices, I also use a particular pauldron. There's one in the GH sprue that has a fanged skull with a scroll beneath it, those go on all of my MotW guys. This is a good thread, I'm currently trying to convert two 2nd ed models, and I've never done one with a helmet before. The only issue I'd have with using a banner, personally, is that I also use Wolf Standard, so it might confuse things.

Though the decoration with the wolf head and lozenge is a good option.

I happened to have a few of the old wolfen models but another cheap fix is in the clanrats box the horned rat emblem for the shields, shave the horns off and it looks like a wolf and put it on the backpack or the cheast piece.

I use the Wofhead-Helmet that comes with the Grey Hunter box and paint it black with yellow eye lenses, makes them stand out.

I also modeled the Marks with CC weapons only, for example two chain swords or only a combat knife, makes them distinguishable enough for my opponents and me.

I did the same for my one MotW guy. I used a chaos chainsword which happened to be in the other hand. He certainly stands out on the board and looks quite feral. And I am going to give him a special paint job, eventually....

Two of mine have a guy holding a wolf skull like something out of Fenrisian Hamlet. My third has a guy standing over a dismembered Marine that I painted black and gold to look like Black Legion and holding his helmet. All three guys have a red mark over their right eye.

I dont know where the previous owner of my Space Wolf army got them, but I have some realy nice werewolf models. They look to be a single solid piece, Werewolf upper body with space marine legs (Looks just like the legs from a space marine, But in the same material as the body) and then space marine backpacks glued on from the official space marine kit. They look awesome as wulfen.

Funny... That's the exact combo I use.

Every Wolfen in my army has the Wolf head and a pair of axes. And most of them have a wolf pelt on thier back as well. That way it's clear who the Wolfen are...

I give them no helm and one half of the face in warpaint. Comparable to highlanders; in my imagination at least.

My Uncle has done his really well.

With some he's taken a beardy SW head (and I am told there are many) and added more green stuff to make it yet more beardy and feral. With some he's also got some werewolf heads and arms of an independent, non-GW retailer (I forget which) and they look really good.
