As the title says; I'm starting a Minotaur SM army, and am going to be focusing more on Shooting than Close Combat (Although I'm not ruling out CC entirely). I would love to field a Drop Pod reliant army, giving Drop Pods to most, if not all possible units. I find them to be a lot of fun. I also plan on using Asterion Moloc-The Terminator armour clad leader of the Minotaurs, whose model is available on Forge World. And maybe take a Command Squad with him.

So what Codex does Dakka think I should use?

The standard Space Marine 'Dex has no particular edge. No focus. To me it just seems like a glorified way of rubbing ultramarines in my face (Shakes fist at Mat Ward).

Blood Angels are essentially standard SM+ All the close combat lulz forever and ever. They have great Dreadnought/Land Raider options, can take free Drop Pods with assault marines (If i were to take them), and have fantastic Apothecaries (Giving Feel no Pain AND Furious charge)

Dark Angels, of course. They're the beastly 6th edition Space Marine dex, but I haven't had much of a chance to look over it. As far as I know, all it offers is Bike or Termie reliant armies. Forgive my ignorance.

And of course there is the Black Templars. IIRC, now the oldest Codex GW has to offer? Doesn't seem very strong, but I thought I'd add it anyhow.

ATM I'm leaning towards BA, simply because I know a lot about them-used to be a heavy BA player-and they have more umph than Codex: Space Marines. Thanks for your time ;D

Honestly I'd consider C:Space Wolves

They have resilient Troops that shoot just as well as the others, at a cheaper cost and also have CCW+Pistol.

Why not use the rules for the Minotaurs? I see that option absent which seems odd.

They can either use Codex:SM and replace Chapter tactics with preferred enemy: Space Marines or use the siege list which can also do drop pods.

However, if you're looking for the strongest drop pod list then there isn't any real option.. It's space wolves.

Don't rule out the vanilla marines, if you run your marines as a vulkan list or Pedro list you have an amazing drop pod list. I know quite a few people that love going that route. Pedro makes sternguard score and those IMO are the best power armor unit you can ask for due to the ability to run combie weapons and special ammo.

Vulkan gives you another good list in tons of buffed flamers and meltas.

DA do get a lot more than just termies and bikes but they do specialize in shooting more than assault. Get some fun toys like the port a rack that let's you use enemy homing beacons lol.

SW are mean at the drop but not the only option, they are nice cause rune priests and the grey hunters having ccw, they do fill your criteria as decent shot plus hold their own in a h2h fight. And it's hard to deny that long fangs put it down way better than other devistator squads

Black Templars will require a lot of tlc due to the old codex. Which sucks cause I love them righteous xeno killing tin men.

I would sign this contract but I already ate the potato

C:SM pods are also 12 man capacity, instead of 10 like all other codicies.

C:SM, the only way you can use the Minotaurs special characters.

C:SM or C:SW

C:SW probably is an easier list to make straight forward, or at lower points levels

Once you grab vulkan or kantor, as many have said, the C:SM drop pod list gets very crazy very fast. It works well in other ways, too (12 men capacity), but SW is probably more your want.

Codex: Space Marines is the way to go, in my opinion. I play a Pod list with Vulkan (or Pedro if I'm feeling saucy) and I'm very satisfied with it.

Other fun tactics include using the locator beacons on your pods for Deep Striking allies (including Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, or Tau!) or for Gate using Librarians.

Yeah, with lots of good stuff. C:SM with supplementation from IA12 is your best bet.

Not quite. It has some Minotaurs characters and some new and updated units for C:SM, but not a complete army list. Minotaurs are just C:SM with appropriate paint.

Dark angels I say. Banner of devastation in a drop pod list can be just mean (you don't need to be up close for that stuff) and you can add some extra fun stuff like outflanking bikes and knights of various flavors (two)

They are a codex SM army, use the appropriate special characters and book. It would be different if there werent rules for them already.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

If you're going to use the special characters from the Badab War books and/or IA:12, you need to use the C:SM with them. That's what they were written for.

However, if you aren't going to use those characters or their rules, then use whatever codex makes you happy.

I'd use C:SM, personally, because I like the special characters they got.

Space marines are space marines are space marines.

that said, Minotaurs have direct support as a C:SM army, with IA:12 giving them several characters for that book
