Hi all, as the title suggests, I have long been a fan of Wraithguard and Wraithlords and now an entire army of them is viable. I'd quite like to do it primarily as a painting/modelling project but that doesn't mean I'm OK with it being easy to beat! I want something that's an interesting theme but that won't be a pushover.

The reason I posted this here instead of the tactics forum is due to the fact that, as I said, I don't want to make a weak army but theme and coolness are just as important as strength for this idea. I don't play tournaments and I often find myself up against themed or fluffy lists rather than super-competitive armies (so things like spam of the best units aren't something I really need to worry about). Also, no matter how good it is, I don't want to buy a Wraith Knight - I'm not a fan of giant models, it's a bit pricy for me and it would be a pain to store and transport.

So what I was thinking of was an army with a Spiritseer, Wraithguard and Wraithblades, Wraithlords and maybe a FW Wraithseer -and probably nothing else! OK, I'd consider transports too. If you've read through this whole mini-essay, thanks, and please let me know if you think this idea is worth a try!

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

I think it's definitely valid, I wouldn't go with an exclusively Wraith list, but as the core with a few specialized units it can definitely work.

I've been planning out a Wraith army as well. I was going to run:

-Spirit seer(s)

-2 Wraith-guards with cannons
-1 Wraith-blades with swords
-1 Wraith-blades with axes

-Scorpions
-Harlequins

-Wraith-lord(s)

I chose the Harlequins because they're flexible, and fluff wise they wouldn't seem to much care about the taboo of the wraith-magic.

The Scorpions are my personal favorite and have always served me well, however I could see trading them for Reapers, Spiders or maybe Hawks. Something to harass their flank as your wall of Wraithbone advances.

With the new Iylanden supplement (I hear you can take a council of spirit seers!) I'll probably change my list, but currently that's the plan. In the future when I'm a richer man I may invest in a wraith knight to polish off the army.
