The title says it all: Do you think that dichromatic painting could lead to good/interesting results on miniatures or does black and white only work in 2D.

Monochrome paint jobs can be stunning.

To pull it off, you need to be exceptionally good at blending, and your theory on highlighting methods (particularly NMM) needs to be bang on. It's not remotely forgiving as you're effectively giving up three of the four methods of achieving contrast on a model - colour, temperature, and sheen.
