New to the 40k world. I started off with the DV set and have decided to take the plunge into the warp. I would like to get a fairly solid list put together and then build that army. I'll probably lean more towards fluff while I'm learning and build up to semi-competitive. All help/comments are welcome and appreciated.
Huron - 160
Lord - MoN/Bike/SoC/BBoS/LC - 170
Bikers x 4 - MoN/Melta x2/Combi-Melta - 144
PM x 5 - Plasma x2/Rhino with DC - 190
PM x 5 - Plasma x2/Rhino with DC - 190
Cultists x 10 - 50
CSM x 9 - CCW x8/MoK/IoW/Flamer/LC x2 - 216
This is one of the units I'm unsure of. They are priority #1 for infiltrating, and I'm also thinking of joining Huron to this squad.
Heldrake w/Baleflamer - 170
Hacocs x 5 - AC x4 - 115
ADL w/Quad - 100
Total = 1505
I was hoping to sit at 1500, so I'm a few over. It shouldn't be tough to find 5pts, but I figured I would post it as is and get your opinions. Thanks

If I take huron to infiltrate any thing, it would be the biggest blob of csm or termi with MoS & IoE.
I would switch out bikers for 5 spawns MoN for more wounds.
It is a shame 2 plague marines cost as much as 10 cultists. I would drop dirge casters since I would not charge with plague marines since I want to shoot then.

I would cut Huron and the lord. Instead take typhus. He makes your pms troops and week make your cultists zombies which in my opinion is the only viable way to field only 10 of them. That will leave you with 70 points, use those points to add more plague marines. Also, I would cut the adl and the csm. Use those pointsfor another heldrake, more plague marines, and more zombie cultists.

Remember that just starting out you are going to lose a bunch and if you are not find another opponent. Study these players and games to learn, what did I do wrong, what can I do better, what tactics do I need to change and MOST importantly how do I LIKE to play. I think the thing to keep in mind is that you can build the build recommendations on these forums, but if they do not play to your play style then you will not have any fun and probably not win. Don't be afraid to try something, even if someone says it is crap....
Remember you want to have fun, don't be a sheep, be a sheep herder. To be one of those guys people go, wow I can't believe he did that with that list, feels pretty good and you have a blast doing it.
Two of the most fun tournements I had I took two lists that everyone said were crap and I thought to myself "I am probably not going to win, but I will have fun!" - Subsequently I took Best General in 1 and Best Overall in each... This was with an old 4th edition Eldar Codex going up against New Daemons and Tau and Gray knights.... So anything is possible...
As for advice it is a matter of preference. CSM are a competitive build BUT hard to be competitive with. If you have the money and the time, you may want to consider allies with Chaos Daemons, the two together mesh really nicely together! IMO Helldrakes and Soulgrinders are the Shizznats!
Good luck and welcome to a game that sucks your funds, your time, and will cause many hours of addiction and frustration...

Haha. Thanks Eliuj. I am finding out that this hobby does indeed do all those things!
I'm mostly building my army on which models I like, which ones sound fun to play, and which models I want to convert. Being new to the hobby though, I'm still learning, so it's nice to be able to bounce ideas off of other and get opinions. Most people say drop Huron, but I like the idea of infiltrating, and I like the fluff angle I can use with him, as he's Chaos Undivided, and I can use his "Skull Harvest" theme to paint up my army in unorthodox ways. Demons are a ways off in the distance. I need to learn how to use 1 army before going crazy and adding others! Thank you for the reply, I am beginning to think that there's no real substitute for just jumping in the fire and learning from experience. The Lord makes the PMs troops as well. The cultists would be held in reserves and be nothing more than a late game objective grabber. I wouldn't expect 10 of them to be able to screw in a lightbulb let alone do anything of consequence on a battlefield except paint the dirt red
Thanks for the reply. Typhus and Zombie Inc. are a whole nuther army waiting in the wings down the road though.

Your plague lord on bike would be awesome with the black mace and a squad of Spawn to add Toughness and soak up wounds. If had room for a sorcerer on bike unmarked he could add benefits to the squad like Endurance, etc. Good luck once again...
If keeping lord on bike with other bikers consider the flamer weapon as it has torrent and you can stay away from your opponent as much as possible... cheers
