During one of my excursions to the WarStore, I happened upon some interesting news that Neil was going to open up a brick and mortar store front (as of now, the WarStore has always operated in a barn....literally).

Finally some concrete news to share:

http://riverheadlocal.com/local-news/new-games-shop-plans-june-opening-in-downtown-riverhead

A games and hobby shop will be opening in downtown Riverhead next month.

Neil Catapano, a Southold man who has been running a games retail website since 1999, is hoping for a June 15 opening in the storefront next to Twin Fork Bikes on East Main Street.

"We're trying to reach the local market," Catapano said in an interview Thursday afternoon.

Catapano's website, TheWarStore.com, has enjoyed great success for the past 13 years selling miniature toys and board games. The Riverhead storefront will focus on board games geared toward an adult audience.

"We thought it was time to open a storefront, and Riverhead seems like a happening place to be," said Catapano. IMG 1954"Between all the new restaurants, the aquarium, the theater, the festivals - it seems like a great fit for us."

The store will feature board games based off the European model, in which all players continue to participate until the end of the game. Unlike an American-style board game such as Monopoly, where players are eliminated throughout the course of play, European-style games allow all players to reach the finish line before adding up points to determine a winner. Popular examples of European-style board games include Apples to Apples and Settlers of Catan.

The games store will also feature a space for customers to try out new games in the store. Catapano is considering holding events where customers can learn how to play games together with guidance from store employees.

In addition to running TheWarStore.com, Catapano is also involved in his family business, the Catapano Dairy Farm in Southold.

This is great news. The previous two hobby shops of the area (one from the late 90's and Paul's Hobby Depot) never panned out, and the new location goes right next to Twin Fork Bikes (which ironically moved from a prior location that was next to Paul's Hobby Depot before it closed down).

Nice! That's nowhere remotely close to me, but I wholeheartedly support it!

Warstore is a great shop - I buy from them often. I'll be rooting for them to succeed with a storefront.

With them being a real store now, can they operate an online shopping cart? Or that doesn't matter and GW just doesn't allow people to sell their products online?

No US store is allowed on online shopping cart, IIRC, and that was recently expanded to all of NA at least.

You could also go to The WarStore and buy things in person. I did so back in '02 and Neal is a very nice guy. And it's wasn't a barn back then, I'd call it more of a shed.

Oooo! I get to go buy hipster glasses and go "I liked going to The WarStore better when it was on a farm; now it's too mainstream."

Yes!

I can't wait for this store. I need a place to play infinity on long island. I am hoping that they set up a calender of events and such.

I am also hoping you can order stuff from the warstore and pick it up here. It would save a bunch of time.

How far is Riverhead from the ferry that arrives from Bridgeport, CT? I'm moving close to there in a couple weeks, and my grandparents live in East Hampton. Might be worth a couple (dozen) trips.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Due to work, I can usually only ship any sales or trades out on Saturday morning. Please trade/purchase with this in mind.

When we get closer to landing on a Grand Opening date (looking like it's July 13th), we will get more information on TheWarStore.com (we will make sure it's easy to find from the front page).

As of this Saturday (June 22nd) we plan to have the store open with limited operating hours (10AM - 6PM every day). We are still working on having our gaming tables and such built so there will be limited in store gaming out of the box... We plan to have all that good stuff at 100% by the grand opening.

Once we are fully operational (see what i did there), The store hours will be:

Monday - 12PM to 8PM
Tuesday to Thursday - 12PM - 10PM
Friday - 12PM - 12AM
Saturday - 10AM - 12AM
Sunday - 10AM - 10PM

These hours are subject to change and closing times are flexible; as in If there are folks gaming, we will stay open (within reason of course).

We also plan to have a drop ship system in place sooner then later (Place an order on the website on Friday, it's waiting for you at the store Saturday).

Card gaming will also be supported... We will be buying and selling Magic Singles initially and plan to deal in other TCG's down the road.

Was just there this past week and it looks like they are open still.

You should try to go during certain times of the year because rarely do you get to see Neil shaved down.

What, does he loose Super Bowl bets?
Does he need to provide extra fur for the little fu- dogs?
Does he secretly carry the as yet unrevealed SOB codex tattooed on his chest?

Awesome, this is really great news! Not for me so much, as I am sadly far from NYC, but if I ever get there I am going to show up!
I definitely second how awesome Neil and the gang have always been to order from and deal with; I don't know if he has kids, but if so, I probably put one through college myself, and always had good experiences.

Congratulations on the new place, and best of luck to you!

Just went in and made my first purchase there.

They're stacking warmahordes, MTG and GW there plus other companies.

Still building it up but it looks like it is coming along nicely.
