Fairly new to this forum and have started a blog on my continuing Tau army. In order to fund more stuff for them I took on a comission job for a good friend of mine who was happy to let me try new techniques on his Legion models.

Below are the results. Any tips on what could have been done better or what was done right would be great. Always looking to improve.

The one thing I know I need to do is get a decent lightbox for photo's as dining tables and magnolia walls do not make great shots!

About 30 hours total work on there over a couple of weeks between other things.

Full album can be found here : http://imageshack.us/g/1/10065179/

Few sample shots below. Full res by clicking etc.

These are great! The flames could perhaps do with some more variation in terms of the number of colours you blend them through but honestly they already look really nice =)

These look very good. I actually quite like the subtle way you've painted the flames - kind of makes me think like they are just simmering, before increasing to an inferno in battle. If I had to give one suggestion, it would be to highlight your black armour a touch more - at the moment it looks a bit muted, but that may be just the photo or intentional. Looking good, keep it up.

I like the flames, but I'd maybe suggest a touch more white at the base of them to make them look more glowy.

I'd tend to agree with Sir Samuel, but I would only attempt a white highlight if your graduation into yellow is larger. If you look on the leg of the marines in the third and sixth pictures, they're most orange. Putting a white highlight straight in on top of the orange would ruin the effect IMHO. Sir Sam's not wrong, but you'd need to add in a bit yellow first IMHO.

I think they look damn good. The flames especially, which you've avoided the most common flames pitfall on. (Making them too bright.) Awesome work.

The balance between the dark colors and the flames is quite nice, not overpowering as someone else said. The thing that effects these figs a bit strongly is the bases, they don't really overpower the figs but they do fight for attention because they are very elaborate. - But they do create an intense environment. Cool stuff, nice colors on the weapons too.

Thanks for comments. Lots to review if I do flames again. Unfortunately these have already been delivered to my friend so no chance for changes but the flames perhaps could have used a few more colours. I only used 3 and blended between in stages so maybe adding in a bit more yellow would have helped.

The highlighting does not show as well as it should I think. All panels are highlighted in grey with the base being a very dark grey. I actually went and shaded recesses with pure black but but lack of a decent photo area washed it out a bit.

Overall I am happy with the result and your comments are greatly appreciated!

These guys are probably the last models GW released that I actually like. . . . and you've done a crackin' job!

Agree that perhaps a more obvious highlight could slightly improve but I'm no expert!

Need more 's in my life!

Thanks. I might have a few more of these coming in as my friend wants to expand the squad. Hoping to get the originals back too for some better photo's as I think there is more highlighting than shows.

Will see what I can do on the next ones to make them pop that bit more.

Good job on these guys! They can be daunting to paint with all the flames and bone.

I only just got around to doing my test model for my Legion army, and I already know I'll be snagging a few tips from you

Hope to see more work!
