Subject: Space Marine Drop Pod list.... still have 160 points to use...!

Hi...
I have a Drop Pod list with Vanilla marines, but i need to use the last 160 points.... Im thinking a Libby to boost either the Terminators, a TAC or the Sternguard...
or a second scout squad w. a ML and Sgt Telion. What do you think?
the current list is:
HQ
Vulkan
TROOP
10 x TAC: Meltagun, Multi-Melta, Combi-Melta, + Drop Pod
10 x TAC: ML, Flamer, + Drop Pod
5 x Scout, Snipers, Camo cloak.
ELITE
Dreadnought w. heavy flamer + Drop Pod
10 x Sternguard: 6 combi melta, 4 combi flamer + Drop Pod
5 x Terminator: TH/ SS
FAST
2 x Storm Talon, Skyhammer ML
HEAVY
2 x Thunderfire
The list is simple, drop the Sternguard + Dread and kill something.
The melta TAC can also drop and deal some damage.
The second TAC make for an obj, same with Scouts.
The Terminators helps where it is needed. Same with Talons.
TFC fire away and bolster ruins.
Hope you can help me with the last points
regards
Kris

Do thunderfire cannons cost (aegis defence line with quad gun) points? If so, lose both and take a land raider Achilles

I'm a Pedro man myself, but if using Vulkan:
I'd say the teleport homer on the scout squad would be great if you can infiltrate them well or rush and hide behind terrain with the Storm
I'd also be in favor of upgrading the Dread to an Ironclad with underslung meltas, that is always fun

I like the list except for two things: the scouts and the TH/SS termies
1) Scouts:
Sniper scouts are great, but as mentioned above you need a tele homer, imo.
2) TH/SS termies are incredible, but I find they just don't do the job when teleported in. That turn sitting there, near a target, sees them taking a ridiculous amount of punishment, usually killing them before they get to do what's needed.
With 160 points left, I'd recommend the following changes:
1) Remove the scout unit, grab a land raider crusader/LR and use it to get the TH/SS and Vulkan up the field and into the enemy.
2) Remove the TH/SS termies, grab a squad of Tac termies with a couple chainfists and a HF, add a tele homer to the scouts, add a couple locator beacons, and add in a LS with MM/HF.
NB: That squad of sternguard can also take a total of 2 HF, if you want. Given Vulkan's abilities, those HFs can (with combat-squadded) make for some crazy anti-infantry fire power.
Anyway, hope this helps. This is definitely a good start to a vulkan drop pod list, and I hope it works out well for you on the table top

You have only four drop pods...
I'd drop the termies, grab another tac squad in a pod, and grab some pods for your TFC's. Deploy a tac squad in combat squads to cover your TFC. Drop the four loaded pods in turn one, bring the rest on later empty. Maybe with dreadwind upgrades sprinkled in.

Thanks for the comments Guys..!
I know the Terminators are best of in a Redeemer, but I want to keep the list Tank light, so maybe I should drop the Terminators..
I just think the tend to scare/take attention from other softer units
Or i could teleport them in to help the scouts if they are in trouble.
About the Ironclad, then I already have a Multi-Melta on my dreadnought, so Id rather save the points.
Im not a big fan on dropping emty Pods either. I know its clever game wise, but my inner fluff monster just wont let me do it
So given this info, what would you do?
Its a 2k list, so I think i need at least 4 Troop choice, as I sometimes Loose all my scoring units when I only field 3.
Again thanks for the Words Automatically Appended Next Post: I could swap the Terminators for another Sternguard squad...

appears some people dont pay attention to what your doing, so here is my suggestions based on what you want to run.
First - keep those terminators, add on if you can. because right now nothing is scary in that list. sure everything has great uses and are versatile, but no single unit screams OH MY GOD RUN!
Second, I would maybe recommend buying some more terminators, walk them across the board and drop a terminator librarian in there with null zone and gate of infinity. Why? A wall of terminators on the board at beginning of the game is scary, then drop pods start dropping in, then you teleport across the board, throwing his plans in disarray. You gain the advantage and make him react to you instead of the other way around.
With that extra 160 you could also get a few more scout squads for objective capturing. Remember, 6th edition has a lot of scenarios that push multiple objectives. Stick with vulkan, he is good, especially in a drop list. I would suggest dropping the ML and grabbing another multimelta...unless this list is baseed more on what you have on hand.

Hmm i do love terminators, and Goi is The Only Way If on foot. So 160 could be Libby and locator beacons on The pods so they dont Scatter, Or 5 scouts, teleport Homer and land speeder storm with multi melta. They would boost The troop slot and help The terminator arrive safely

Not a too bad list, but needs shaping up.
Firstly, Vulkan is awesome in a Drop Pod list. Getting those meltas into range quickly is best with Pods and Vulkan makes them twin-linked. Vulkan is also perhaps the best S.M special character.
Now, I do not think you're getting the best out of Vulkan; you do not have a huge number of hammers, flamers and meltas. So you need to up your quantity. Also you do not have enough Drop Pods either.
I would consider something like this, though you didn't say how much points you're doing:
Vulkan Hestan
10 x Assault Terminators - 10 x thunder hammers & storm shields
Dreadnought w/ Drop Pod - heavy flamer - Drop Pod w/ locator beacon
Dreadnought w/ Drop Pod - heavy flamer - Drop Pod w/ locator beacon
10 x Tactical Marines w/ Drop Pod - meltagun & multi melta - Sgt w/ combi melta
10 x Tactical Marines w/ Drop Pod - meltagun & multi melta - Sgt w/ combi melta
10 x Tactical Marines w/ Drop Pod - meltagun & multi melta
10 x Tactical Marines w/ Drop Pod - flamer & multi melta - Sgt w/ combi flamer
5 x Scouts
Land Speeder - 2 x mutli meltas
Land Speeder - 2 x mutli meltas
Combat squad the Assault Terminators so you have two units of 5. Drop the Dreadnoughts first so the locator beacons will work after, this will let the Hammernators deep strike on target.
Hope that helps

Ahh sorry, I was going for 1850 or 2K
I like Vulkan too, put im not going to spam meltas
I also like Sterguard, ive got some dope Forgeworld models with Anvil weapons and cloaks
I also dont like the Land Speeders that much
They list you wrote is solid though. But I´ll try my own first... And 4-5 drop pods is okay I think

If you're not putting Vulkan in to spam meltas or even flamers or hammers then you're just wasting points and may as well go for something else. The point of Vulkan is to twin-link all those weapons I just mentioned, if you do not spam those weapons, then you're just not getting your points worth.
Land Speeders are pretty cool, double melta slagness works well with Vulkan and the two fast moving Speeders just add another threat, works great when your troops are all on foot. Though of course horses for courses.
Glad you like my list. You can always use it as a template or building block for you own though
You need an odd number of Drop Pods so you get more down first turn. 5 is an ideal number. You just need to squeeze in another Pod.

Well, I have
10 combi weapons on the Sternguard
1 Multi melta + heavy flamer on the Dread
1 Multi melta, melta gun, combi melta on TAC 1
1 Multi melta, flamer on TAC 2
1 Multi melta on Land Speeder Storm.
and if I choose the Terminators, 5 Thunderhammers, so i wouldnt say Im wasting Vulkan
But saying that I know it isnt the typical Vulkan list, but hey sometimes different is good
I could make some changes to get a Redeemer.. but Ill try and play with the list as it is and then see

You have five melta weapons excluding combi. Mine has thirteen, that's over double yours, nearly triple and excluding combi . Honestly, five melta weapons plus single shot isn't making the most out of Vulkan.
Redeemer doesn't work with Vulkan if I remember right.

Greetings Brother Captain,
You could ally with tau for anti air definitely. Commander chip + Riptide + ADL + etc. So you could watch-out for: Helldrakes, Aircrons, Demon Princes, you name it.
For assault termies, I always field shrike (infiltrating terminators) or Cassius because he's only 125pts. He is T6, FNP, fearless, etc.
For sternguards, I always join them with Lysander for bolter drill/bolster defese of the ADL, etc.
Its a pitty we could only bring 2 HQ at a time.
Good luck with your Drop pod list.
For the Emperor!
