Hi everyone, I am brand new to Space Wolves, and I'm working on assembling my first squad of Grey Hunters. I have a few 1000point lists made up that I'm hoping to get some constructive criticism on from those of you more experienced with the wolves. I usually play against Grey Knights or Imperial Guard, and I almost never have to worry about fliers.

So here is the Drop Pod list:
Spoiler:
HQ:
-Rune Priest, Power Armour, Divination

Troops:
8 Grey Hunters
-1 Plasma Gun
-Wolf Standard
-Drop Pod

8 Grey Hunters

-Drop Pod

-1 Melta Gun
-Wolf Standard
-Drop Pod

Elites:
3 Wolf Guard in terminator armour:
-2 Combi-Plasmas
-1 Combi-Melta
-One in each Grey hunter pack

Heavy Support:
4 Long fangs
-3 Missile launchers
-Drop Pod

And here is the footslogging list:

My 1000 point footslogging list is similar to yours: rune priest, three 10 man GH packs each being led by a WG in TDA and a LF squad with 5 ML. Definitely go with the footslog list.

"Listen closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."Leman Russ

I don't know why I did that. I know better! I've edited the main post. So the poll is split right down the middle so far, so that leads me to believe that they are equally good (or bad).

I have another question. I'm using thunderwolves without stormshields in the foot list. Since I fight Grey Knights I kinda had a dilemma. Either run them bare bones to keep them cheap, or give them storm shields for protection against the I6 power weapons. I don't want them to just die, but adding the storm shields makes them so expensive. Does anyone have any tips for using them against grey knights?

Drop Pods of course! Then you have the option to do both with the same list depending on what army you face.

And there is no reason not to take TWC in a Drop Pod heavy list. Cavalry is fast enough, and with 30+ Grey Hunters in the enemy's lap they'll likely be protected from enemy shooting for a turn.

The sheer speed that Pods can give you at 1000pts is incredible, marry that with counter-attack and 2 meltas or plasma or flamers and you suddenly have a pretty intimidating force.
