Subject: Tripple DakkaJet+Warphead Orks vs Dark Eldar Coven - 1500pts Video Batrep
Great, great match. I really enjoy your reports. This one gets bonus points as Dark Eldar and Orks are my main armies! I've yet to use the Dakka Jets as I go for more of a horde list, but I've been meaning to try them out. Now that I have a Hemlock Wraithfighter combined with my two Dark Eldar fighters I can probably proxy a Dakka Jet list pretty well and give it a charge.
As always, maneuverability is one of the Dark Eldar's strongest assets. I have a game coming up with a Night Scythe spam list in a week or two, and I'm pretty much hoping to pull off the same maneuvering you did as I don't expect my aircraft to be sufficient for air interdiction. Not to mention the terrain in this map was extremely unfavorable to the jets, in my opinion. Did you both take turns placing it or did one of you have it set up already?
Anyway, thanks for posting this. I look forward to seeing more.
EDIT: On the technical aspect, I wanted to comment that the audio here is really low. I have to boost my output a lot more than I do for anything else to make out what you are saying clearly. I'm not sure if this is just me or not, but it can be problematic.

Thanks. I appreciate the comment . Let me know how that game against the crons goes! The terrain was ok. It helped but i think that the jets could have been positioned better as the game went on to negate key targets or create dead zones. We both took turns placing terrain.

Thanks! Much appreciated it.

Hmm the Lootas didn't seem to be effective. I assume they had 4+ cover and could have gone to ground for the 3+.
I don't know how many there were but I would have taken 2 groups of 10. The only downside is I could only take 1 Killa Kanz group, But I would prefer a Def Dread or Battlewagon with a Def Rolla. I wouldn't take red paint, especially if I didn't paint my Dakkajets Red.
Because it was 1500 and fielding 3 Dakkajets, I would have taken Old Zogwort and another Weirdboy with Warphead. Each of them would have been in large Mobs of 30 orks, (shoota, 2 Big Shoota Nob Powerclaw Bosspole).
I wasn't able to follow all the casting that the Weird Boy did.
But with 2 Warpheads I would first roll to see if I can cast.
I would roll, I would then roll for the 2nd to see if they will cast and then roll, If either is a 6 I would only reroll the other if it were a 1. But even if the second roll is a 1, I would deny the witch and if that failed Look out sir. The object is to always have Waaagh! Any turn that there are Dakkajets on the field and I failed to roll a 6 I would enact the regular Waaagh!.
I think the ork player was out matched because his boyz groups were too small and Killa Kanz just get cut to ribbons with typical weapons, unlike a Battlewagon or a Def Dread would. Plus without forcing Waaagh! every turn, the dakkajet are just good instead of awesome.

The lootas did not go to ground. I agree with your tactical points. The casting the wiredboy did was "ere we go" then waaghed when the jets came in, then the jets left, then he used the ork player guaranteed wagh the turn they came back in. So it was not a lack of waaghs for the jets. I disagree with your outmatched by the army lists statement. I think that there was much in terms of deployment, movement and target prioroty that could have been different to maximize the list. Not the lack of elements within it.

Thanks for the update, it's nice to hear the Weird Boy wasn't completely useless. my experience they usually are, but they are fun to play. I always take Old Zogwort, because that chance to turn an IC into a Squig is just too good to pass up.
I've found with 6th edition, going to ground or even moving for better positioning - fairly standard for lootas now. Putting them in a stripped down battlewagon does wonders for protecting a group of 15. But they had plenty of protection so that wasn't the problem.
I do agree that taking out the Lootas first turn, certainly took a bit of wind out of the sails of the Ork. I can see that my statement of them being outmatched because of the army list was not the right. The Ork Army list didn't fit the player's style as well as it should have, is probably better to say.
Some minor tweaks to the list, Take away red paint or paint your planes red (I don't know why this is, it's an ork thing and you'll find that it actually works). Just like painted figures do better against non-painted. I would have given the Big Mek a Burna it's 20 point that seem wasted, until you don't have it.
but you are correct, if they changed just Target Priority, the game might have gone better the orks (certainly a closer game).

Old Zog can always be fun. The ork player usually runs 2 warpheads instead. And yes, painted models are very important.
My one worry is my critique sounds a lot harsher written, than in my head. rereading it, it didn't come out as light hearted as intended.
There are times when you could do everything right (great force list and superb tatics and the dice fails you - like with the Lootas, I don't know how many there were (11 or more they wouldn't have gone to ground; didn't see the save roll, but if there were a lot of 1's and 2's going to ground might not have been enough, they would have still failed Leadership and been removed.
My only advice to Ork players is never panic! If losing 1 unit in the game will make your force crumble, you might as well just go out like an Ork.

No offence taken . And go out like an ork you should! And I agree, sometimes the dice just poop. Although we can always try put ourself in a better position as the game continues in case the dice turn arround you can make the most of it.
Good tactical game for your Dark Eldar, well played. That Talos deserves a pat on the back for saving Urien!
I liked the dramatic voiceover at the beginning Skari, the campaign you are running looks awesome. I hope there will be more videos from that in the future...
