I did a quick forum search in this forum (Painting and Modelling) and another one in the Showcase forum and there was a lot of threads to look through. I'd start there. Chances are if you're asking, someone has asked the same question before

Use standard DA models with chaos shoulder pads & backpacks.
Or just do what I'm doing and paint std DA black.
Gives you - CSM army, DA army & vanilla SM army!

Fallen should probably be the black pre-heresy dark angels colours, And might best suit using the legion pre-heresy armours from forgeworld to ensure they look ancient. All modern gear that the space marines use, new marks of bolter and armour for example, just isnt available to a heretic traitor marine. Come to think about it, they probably can't get a steady supply of bolter ammo anymore, as thats kind of produced on the big ships that hold lots of troops. Good chance that a Fallen marine has had to ditch his bolter over the years in favor of a weapon that he can get ammunitions for. I dont know what chaos marines do about bolter rounds... maybe the gods gift them a new clip every few minutes. But Imperial Guard don't use botlers for the reason of logistics problem in moving the munitions to the front lines, and so the lasgun is prefered.
Also its been a long time since the majority of the fallen left the ranks of the DA, any number of mutations or chaos gifts may have happened to them (physical and mental changes) or been earned, exotic and rare equipment may have been plundered etc.
edit not all fallen even neccessarily have to pray to one of the chaos gods, they might simply not follow the Emperor's vision, but not be inherantly chaotic or evil etc, just wanting to exist their measly existance their own way without the silly codex or the inquisition poking its nose around.

There was a Fallen Land Raider in this months WD. Model wise there is no set scheme as they are scattered all over the place so anything will work really. Black armour is probably the only thing that would be common to them.

As far as my Chaos Warband is concerned, there's plenty of Daemon-Forge Worlds near their Star Fortress in the Eye, so we have plenty of ammo and functioning gear, as well as 'daemonically-enhanced' equipment.

I'm pretty sure that its been done lots of people bought the kit planning to play chaos and convert the dark angels into chaos too, some models might take a bit more work to pull off a nice look with, but all of them should be workable
the Tactical Squad seems a sensible starting point, the imperial and dark angel icons need to be defaced or removed completely, perhaps just painted over with an x or scratched to an inch of its life with a knife and painted up in weathered armour effects... some scope to play around there.
Your warband might have modded their armour to include a show of allegiance to a god, or warlord, or anything, or they might be free and alone not following any gods or the emperor.
I would try to replace their bolt guns with some chaosy ones (at a pinch just shaving off the icons might be enough.. but they look too modern for my liking as i said above), and get rid of the imperial eagles, aquillas, dark angel logo's and the purity seals and looking to decorate them alternatively... might depend exactly what kind of warband your running fluff wise

i run a fairly new chaosy warband, renegade and no marks wherever possible (slight exception to my bike squad, as khorne bikes are hilarious)
so... maybe i'll just stick cypher with them, model a few robes where necessary and say they got turned... hmmm food for thought. I'll keep the death/raven wings as DA tho, i do collect ravenwing

I like the thought of getting a conversion kit from the DV box set. I'm pretty set on bikers (9), termies (15), TAC squads (3) and the HQ from that box can't really be used more than once (except for this idea). I love the snap-togethers, because they're instantly put together, come with logos on the model, and look just as good as any TAC squad would. I always wanted to make Fallen Angels, and this thread serves as a good reminder that this would probably be the quickest, cheapest and easiest way to do so (and they could always work on my DA army before and after the Chaosing).
Anyways, thanks for lighting this fire, now I just have to figure out how much Chaos I could get for my buck out of the DV box (or just start a thread elsewhere on dakka and see who runs with the idea)
