I thought Vectored Retro Thrusters looked like a steal in the new codex - proceeded to arm my Commander and his Bodyguard with them, and then realised that the unit was now comprised of a mix of I2, I3 and I4 (drone) units. How to they test to disengage? If it's on I2, then the upgrade is actually much worse than I thought.

And what happens to the drones, who don't have the upgrade??

Check the rules, Hit'n'Run's pretty clear on the subject.
( since that's sounding quite rude, I'll explain. You only need a model with Hit'n'Run to be able to use it, so your drones would go with you.(P.38)For characteristic tests you use the highest value of the unit (P.7) )

You always use the highest Initiative in the unit for Hit and Run.

Remember, Hit and Run only requires one model in the unit to have it for the whole unit to benefit, so the drones will be affected just fine.

And just to add to the fun you're about to have to use H&R you only need one model in the unit to have it (BRB pg.38).
