Hey everybody, I was working on my first tourney list, and was hoping for some help/advice. I want to make a list that will give a good account of itself, but isn't spammed or OP. I play Codex: Space Marines. I'm told that for this tourney, there will be a good variety of races, so I am aiming for a generalist list. Any input would be greatly appreciated. The tourney is WYSIWYG, so I have to make do with what my models actually are.

Does the librarian go with the terminators? Because I feel that you would be much better off with Gate of infinity to jump around the board giving support to what ever needs it.

For tourneys you need AA so the second list is better suited for that. But no transportation on your tac squads? I'd give that a second look.

I was thinking of putting the librarian with a tac squad, using the force dome for invuln saves, and possibly keeping the termies in reserve so I can deep strike them, if needed, based on who/what I'm playing.

And thanks for the replies. I appreciate it.

Hi...

This is my thoughts:

Leave the plasma pistol on the Libby.
Same with the chainfist on the one terminator.

And maybe swap the plasmagun + combiplasma for meltas, they just kiil more Things in my opinion

And If I were you I would get some Thunder Fire Cannons instead of the Predators, they are sooo good for the 100 pts..! Maybe give it a drop pod and drop it emty with the missile launcher option near some soft Infantry

Again I would swap the typhoon missiles for the cheaper Skyhammer missiles
I always field 2 Storm Talons, their Strafing runs (+1 BS) and Rending twinlinked assault cannons kill allmost everything!! Also armour, remember 6´s give you D3 ekstra..! If they survive they are really good, well I think at least.

oops I almost forgot that your TAC needs transport, either pods or rhinos.. Helldrakes just flames them to death in 1 round :(

Hope this helps..

What other models do you have, if any? Especially if it's WYSIWYG, we can't give very good advice if we don't know what you're limited to. Looking forward to helping out...

Thanks. I have 2 Rhinos, 1 RB, a drop pod, a landspeeder typhoon, tornado, and a landspeeder with a MM, a TLLC/LC sponsons pred, 1 dread w/ MM and a PF/ with a storm bolter, another with interchangable plasma cannon/TLLC/assault cannon arms and a PF, a captain with a command squad with several options for both assault and shooting, a full biker squad (8 bikers, 1 attack bike) w/ a PF on the sarge, 2 meltas, and a MM on the attack bike, some scouts (snipers, bolters, and pistol options), 2 vindicators, and a thunderfire cannon. Also, 2 assault squads, but those aren't as likely to be useful here. As far as tac squad special weapons go, I have 4 full tac squads, with ML and flamers for each, and an additional 2 meltagunners and 2 plasma gunners, to be swapped out with the flamers. The termie squad has an extra cyclone missile launcher guy, and another chainfist, points allowing.

I'm still getting the hang of things, so I don't want a terribly complicated list to play, and as I said, I will be facing a variety of opponents. Tau and Daemons are popular right now at the store, with several necron players as well (these guys may not all be at the tournament, though).

Ok, now we're cookin' with gas.

I think you should try to deploy a defensive strategy against this meta. Necrons are quick, with lots of dakka and usually a pretty good assault phase to boot. Tau can outgun anybody within about 30" and you'll want to stay far away from Daemons. So, my advice is, take as much long ranged shooting as you can, pick a couple objectives and castle up. Keep an eye towards secondary objectives because they often decide close games; which playing vanilla SM, you'll be in.

I don't have a SM codex, so I won't be exact in my listing, but how about something like this:

Librarian

4 Tactical Squads, 2 Rhinos+Razor (Combat squad the flamers out of 3 of the tacs and use these as mobile tarpits, objective grabbers. These will come in super handy against daemons. The vehicles themselves can also be used to force your assaulty opponents to move around the wall of them to get to your lines.

2 5-man sniper scouts to help out with monstrous creatures, and again, longer range.

That's all about 1000 points, and you've got 6 troop choices and 9 scoring units.

The MM Dread in your pod. About 150 right? If it comes in early, you can drop it in a lane-blocking place against assaulty armies or next to a squishy unit that it can tarpit (pathfinders!) or next to a Hammerhead etc. If it comes in late, it can bid for linebreaker.

Smaller squad of bikes with meltaguns and Attack Bike MM. Outflank these against enemy armor.- 135?

All 3 Predators. That's about 330. It ups your armor saturation and gives you a longer range fire base than your bolters provide, as well as some anti-tank/aa punch.

You should have about 350 points left. Fill in the list with as many terminators as can fit. That gives you another counter-assault unit but one that's more than just a tarpit. Against dakka armies, they can get in combat via deep strike. Just be judicious with where you land and beware of Tau riptides and interceptor.

If you castle up and cleverly use your vehicles to control fire lanes you can win some games.

You might want to squeeze in the aegis+quad depending on the fliers in your meta but I think you should be fine with the ranged options you have+ prescience.

I'm fine with trading the melta bikes for the quad gun if you think fliers are a bigger threat than Hammerheads/Predators/Leman Russ. Looks good overall. Nothing flashy just good ol' Adeptus Astartes force cohesion.

I think if you play defensively you've got a shot at a positive W/L/D ratio in the tournament.
