Subject: Independent Tau Characters and drones, leaving and entering units.
My question is if I'm able to join a unit and ditch the drones to that unit when my independant leaves. He has taken 2 drones and I want to remove them from his unit.
I feel the answer might be no but it's worth asking, drones are their own model and don't require any special wargear/systems/upgrades.
The drones are NOT included in this unit's composition.
Essentially are the drones stuck with their respective suit for the entire game other than when the suit dies?
For anyone interested I want to make a giant blob of gun drones/BC/Plasma suits to take advantage of my markerlights while suiting my commander up with:
Dont have the tau codex on me atm, but Im pretty sure it states in the section with the drone rules that he has to take his drones with him when he leaves the unit.
Will double check when I get home.

He takes his drones with him when he leaves. The only exception to that is if he leaves the unit by shuffling off the mortal coil, in which case he bequeaths the drones to their new foster family before he croaks.
