Hello I just picked up a 40k Dark Vengeance starter set and started to paint it tonight. Ive never painted miniatures before but its pretty fun so far. I plan to update this thread with more photos as I finish more of the set but heres the mini I have done. Its the first miniature ive ever painted so I was also looking for some feedback if anyone wouldnt mind dropping some here

For a first attempt that's amazing!! Really like the use of colors and the washes.
Personally I would use a lighter flesh tone, the lighter the tone the more menacing in my eyes.
The clothes could use a bit of highlighting, the best bet is to use the base colour wash then highlight with the original colour. For extreme highlights mix the base 50/50 with some white.
Also try highlighting the metal areas to give them a little glint at the edges. For gold I use auric armour gold on the edges and iron breaker on the leadbelcher.
Keep up the good work dude and keep posting. Looking forward to see some more.
Feel free to pm me if you want any more help.

First things first. Welcome to Dakka,
For a first model your definitely doing things right, I wont critique it but rather give you a few recommendations to make it really pop.
Your use of washes is great, now go grab the base color and highlight up from the washes (especially on the skin) highlight on the raised areas like biceps, cheeks bones nose. This will give your model "depth".
You can apply that to raised folds of clothing ect.
Again great job and with a few easy additions it will be even better

Thanks, Ill try the highlighting once i get more of the minis done. I decided to get the hellbrute out of the way as hes the biggest of the lot. This is the result, I need to pickup some yellow for the eyes but overall hes pretty finished
Sadly my camera didnt want to focus him as much as I would have liked but you can see most of the detail.

Ive finished another cultist and one of my Chosen, I also picked up a group of 20 unpainted ork boyz for half the price of 10 so that was nice. However the person seems to have lost or ran out of ork heads when putting them together and put an ork skull bit on one for a head. Thinking of using some liquid greenstuff to build up flesh around it and make it into a proper head.
