Subject: Creating a 2000pt Tau Army based off the Battleforce box set.

I bought the Tau Battleforce box set and I also have another Crisis suit plus Commander Shadowsun. I am looking to build a 2000pt army. I was thinking another set of Fire Warriors, a set of Pathfinders, a Broadside suit, a Devilfish, and a Hammerhead ship.
I know people are loving the new Riptide suits, but not really feeling them. May get it eventually just as painting project.
Any suggestions or ideas anyone? Main focus will be against Space Marines.

Riptides as painting projects are super fun. Really great to assemble with magnets, too!
If you're looking for fun, fire warriors and crisis suits are great for a beer n chips game of 2k, with broadies and hammerheads.
If you're looking for competitive, you're going to need 7 suits, Farsight and Shadowsun, 60 kroot, and some skyrays.

The Crisis Suit I assembled awhile back, I used a Dremel tool to drill small holes in weapons and the suit. I used paper clips as the base for the weapons and support systems for the suit. Worked pretty well so far. Magnets would be better. I have seen it done, but a little expensive.

Riptides are an amazing unit, I seriously suggest re-evaluating them as they are a very helpful unit.
I suggest against Broadsides, just for the model purposes. I can't justify $50 for a regular infantry unit that's MC size, with basic marine stats. Maybe if Obliterators and Terminators only came in boxes of 1 for $45 I could understand, until then, they're just a rip off.
Devilfish are not useful, just heavy point sinks. They force you to run a unit that's geared for long range shooting and having them not shoot as they scoot down field at normal transport speed. Not that you really even want to have Firewarriors getting in close till the field is mostly clear anyways. If your goal is getting down field, you may as well just run Kroot which are far more cost effective.
Pathfinders or Markerdrones are going to be a "must buy" if you're bringing hammerheads, and they'll benefit your suits and allow for more variation with build options.
There are several Tau threads within the first three pages I suggest going over.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

Not saying anything is wrong about Riptides, just not feeling them right now. Will definitely re- think Broadsides. My real concern was more Fire Warriors and Pathfinders. Thanks for the info.

Firewarriors are useful, but I really feel that 2 mid-size squards are all I would ever really want to field. Kroot are a very useful and versatile unit with the sniper rounds and outflank/infiltrate.
Pathfinders are a great kit, and decent enough units. You get 10 pathfinders with the box, so that lets you field 2 teams of 5. I'd avoid giving them the special weapons, because they just don't seem to fit on an 11 point, T3, 5+, BS3 infantry unit designed around support. Same goes for the special drones, a lot of points invested in squishy squad can leave the rest of your army under equipped.
