Subject: New Compressor Smell?

Hey all! I got a new badger TC910 Aspire Pro compressor and got everything set up (with a lot of help from the members here!) and have been working on my very first airbrush project (some old genestealers I had laying around).... I have been at it for about 2 hours and I have noticed a slight burning smell from the compressor... Is this a normal smell. The compressor is internally old and does not require service, so it shouldn't be low or anything. Also, I understand most new electrical components can have old on them to protect them during storage/shipping. Any input on this would be appreciated... I am not super worried... Just would like to know what is going on... Thanks!
Todd
P.S. I am stationed in Germany so I have the compressor plugged into a 2000w transformer (the compressor is probably 1000w max so I should have plenty of extra wattage left over)...

Doesnt sound good
Electrical burning?
or somethign a bit different?
It could be that its sucking up air contiaign paint and the heat of it running its making the paint particles smell funny?
That something i noticed after using a cheap hair dryer to dry models that i had sprayed... after some months the heatsink inside the hairdryer was clearly coated with paint dust and gave off a lovely burning paint smell.

I'd drop an email to Badger's tech support and ask them sooner rather than later. They are usually quite helpful.

I have been researching online and it seems that some people have had similar issues with this compressor. I shot Badger an E-mail. I wish I would have purchased an auxilliary air tank for it, but it wasn't in the budget.... maybe next payday...

If its the compressor itle be shooting drops of moisture out? this will make paint splatter undesirably.
adding a moisture trap, or another one if you have one, and emptying the tank on the compressor of moisture (they should have a drainage valve on the bottom) letting it cool down and going again should also help.
It happens because the motor is running hot and condensing moisture out of the air into the tank, mostly this is unavoidable for home users, using large tanks that give the compressor a rest cycle can avoid this for a time.
edit; lol wtf... im sure i was on another thread abotu airbrush splatter
heheh ignore me ... too much whiskey LOL!

Yeah, per the advice of some members here, I have 3 total moisture traps. So far in running the compressor all day today, only the the moisture trap on the compressor had moisture in it. I have one more moisture trap/regulator combo on my workbench that I use to control the pressure (instead of always having to reach down and fidget with the compressor) and I have one on the airbrush itself (rigged in with the quick disconnect). I also ensured all of my fittings are sealed with teflon tape to ensure there were no leaks to help prevent unneccessary compressor usage. I am anxious to hear back from Badger. Hopefully it is just paint baking or something... I can't quite put my finger on what it smells like... but it definately smells like an industrial workshop in my paint studio (aka "The War Room" lol).
I did have to deal with my first airbrush clog today... Lots of firsts today... I can't wait to post up some pics of my first airbrush project!

Is it the smell the oil it came packed in? I know when I got my compressor, not a Badger, it had that smell of my dad's old garage tools for a while and when it got hot that smell was even stronger. The smell went away at some point in the past year or so as I not longer smell it, but I do not remember when it went away so it is not like I can say give it 3 months or something. I just know I do not smell it now.
Anyhow, Badger's support should be able to help you out. They are good people from most people's experience and my own.

That is what it smells like! Like old garage tools lol I will post up what I find out from Badger. Other than the smell, I am totally stoked to be airbrushing my models! I have put in a year and half of hard brush time... And am definatley happy to be stepping up to tge next level!
