Hey everyone,

I have been thinking about picking you a few land speeders to add to my space marine force. I am sort of lacking in heavy weapons so was probably going to have the speeders built with Typhoon Missile Launchers and then a multi-melta.
I was wondering if that would be a decent option for killing some tanks or Armour.

I was also wondering if anyone uses very many land speeders and how do you guys use them in your army.

Runnin up on ya.

Generally as a suicide unit; mount multi-melta run up the field and toast your most hated heavily armored vehicle.

I've had some success with dual heavy flamers though.

My advice, they die to a stiff breeze so keep them cheap, hide behind buildings when possible and don't get upset when they crash and burn.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

I normally run them with the typhoon ML + the basic heavy bolter. Gives them the capacity to hurt light vehicles and infantry whilst staying at an arms length. For MM delivery I prefer attack bikes as they're a lot easier to hide and IMO more durable. I've tried them with the dual flamers, and deep striked them but its quite hit and miss. On a hit its gold, but if it scatters way off it is unlikely to stay around to do anything.

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush

The easy way is always mined

I run them plummeting out of the sky via Deep Strike, loaded up with flamers and multimeltas. I play Salamanders, so that tends to work out pretty well for me.

I like the hybrid build for my bike army. I've found that a lot of opponents (before new Tau haven't had a shot at new eldar yet) were pretty lacking in the long range firepower department. It gave the speeders a great niche to fill with typhoons.

I also play a lot of horde armies (something bikes generally struggle against if the TFC aren't falling) so the heavy flamer comes in handy when i absolutely need to get close and burn a squad out of cover.

Also great for suicide ADL clearers.

Cyclone launchers for me. Multi-meltas on attack bikes attached to bike squads is my preferred delivery system for those.

I love my Landspeeders. I tend to use them as a nuisance unit. Either basic HB setup if I find I have the points left at the end of my list. This unit sits back and uses its 36” range to shoot light vehicles of small units of troops. My other build is MM/MM or MM/HF. This unit charges up the table and pops any problematic vehicles. I use the HF to then go on to harass the opposition if the LS survives 
I never deep strike them as I never have luck with this so choose to deploy normally and move then shoot.
I mostly play against Ork and my LS are great for taking out the Deffkoptas or trucks.
I would suggest keeping them in separate squads if you have the room in the FOC.

Cheers Vim

So far I have used two different landspeeder configurations in my White Scars (see the link in my sig for battle reported examples).

- Firstly I have Typhoon ML + HB. This is pretty pricey, but it can put down a useful amount fire. It is very flexible, being useful against troops and still being able to take out light or medium vehicles. Even heavy vehicles can be threatened if you get a flank shot (only Land Raiders and Monoliths are immune). I prefer the HB over the MM because this is the best ranged variant - given your low armour, staying out of 30" (standard move + RF) range can keep you alive for a little longer.

The downside is that it's is 90 points for an AV10 skimmer which is a significant threat to the enemy, and as such will be a prime target for them if there aren't bigger and nastier things on the field. Mine rarely finished the game intact, and in fact it's usually the first to die. i will shortly be adding a second though...

- The second one I use it the HF/HF variant. This was actually put together as a mistake - I chose solid doors, and the instructions don't tell you to use the ones with holes in when making a Typhoon until later! However, I've never regretted it since my first game - this is one scary vehicle for almost all opponents.

Against anything that's not in power armour, it will tear straight though units, inflicting huge casualties with ease, even against entrenched units in cover. Guard, Tau, Orks, 'Nids, Necrons and Eldar of both varieties will rightly fear the carnage this thing can dish out - and all for the bargain price of 60 points. Even space marines can suffer - in particular use your excellent mobility to get round onto a unit's flanks so you can target special or heavy weapons for special attention.

I've found that the key with this one is to use your movement option to get it into position. This can either mean using LoS-blocking terrain against a shooting-lite enemy, or alternatively deep-striking against shootier forces. The second is risky, but the DS mishap table is not too bad these days, and if it really goes wrong you've only lost a 60-point model. In return, being able to position your dual heavy flamers EXACTLY where you want them can pay huge dividends!

I didn't know so many people liked the landspeeders with dual heavy flamers who knew haha

I think I will probably take the HB over the MM now because the MM seems like a waste if I am trying to stay a bit father away.

I guess I can deep strike them and keep them in reserve for a while...even put a homing beacon on a tac squad to deep strike near them when they are close.

I think it's not known everywhere because it's a fairly new combination - in 5th edition it was useless because it could only move and fire one weapon, so only people who have assembled or converted their speeders in the last 6-8 months have any. This is reinforced by the fact that the model doesn't come with a LS gunner heavy flamer, though it's such an easy conversion even I can do it!

For a HB TML speeder, the ideal range is 35.9" from the enemy model you're targeting, or 47.9" away if they're immune to your HB!

After reading through alot of threads on here, I decided to add 3 typhoon/hb speeders to my 1750 SM army. They're still on the project table unpainted so I can't say how effective they'll be. I'm hoping it'll be a good use of 270 points.

I really liked the typhoon launcher until codex Tau. The krak missile sucks rocks against riptides. And even their troops can dakka down the speeders.

I take a bunch (3-5, dark angels) either of tornado patterns with double heavy bolters or typhoons & give them prescience from a librarian.

Dance their positions so any that was glanced goes to the back, in case people try glance me out with SAF & well, as DA I often give them a 4++ from the bubble item on the libby, though not everyone would have that option.

I find that they're insanely good
