I like Jamie Foxx, Channing Tatum has grown on me and I will even admit that Independence Day is a guilty pleasure of a movie, but man, this just looks horrible. I thought the premise of Olympus has Fallen was silly, Roland Emmerich makes it look like Apocalypse Now by comparison.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Hollywood seems to end up making two really similar movies at the same time fairly often.
Seems fairly often the first film to make it to cinemas makes decent bank, and the second flops. Some times its the other way around, and the first flops while the second does alright. This might be the first time I can think of where both films will completely tank at the box office.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

Olympus has fallen wasn't a smash hit but it did pretty well at the box office, cost 70m made 148m according to wikipedia. It seems this movie's budget is 150m, that sets the bar pretty high for this absurdist buddy comedy.
This whole thing kinda reminds me of armageddon and deep impact.

Your honor, move to enter into evidence:
The people submit an offer to stipulate that both films were flops.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, here's a slideshow with more examples of the phenomenon. Technically I'm also wrong, I forgot about Dante's Peak/Volcano - those both sucked too.

But the financial success is pretty much the main criteria considered when labeling 'flop', as that is what that means, the secondary has to do with marketing, or to a lesser degree projections i.e. Y movie is expected to make X on opening weekend. Armageddon is a turkey to be sure, but it is no flop.
The term box office bomb or flop generally refers to a film that is viewed as highly unsuccessful or unprofitable during its theatrical run, sometimes preceding hype regarding its production, cost or marketing efforts. To earn this distinction, the film must also fail to earn more than the reported cost of its production, distribution and marketing by a wide margin

I am looking forward to Man of Steel in a big way.

I'm not going to lie... I was a little confused, because I was fairly certain that Olympus has Fallen had Gerard Butler in it... And then I saw the wikipedia article... Probably should note somewhere about White House Down for those of us that can't view the trailer due to work blocks

Roland Emmerich is not a talented director.
Universal Soldier - Seriously, watch this thing again if you're not still 12. It's terrible.
Stargate - This is an 8/10 at best. I admit that my thoughts on it are skewed by my hatred of the TV series and its fans.
Independence Day - 8/10 at best again. It's a halfway decent take on War of the Worlds, and insofar as summertime popcorn disasterporn goes, it's good.
Godzilla - Jean Reno is the only saving grace of this monstrosity.
The Patriot - Ask anyone who's ever studied American History, and they'll tell you this movie makes them want to shank somebody.
The Day After Tomorrow - Seriously, this was awful. I cannot come up with a single good thing to redeem it.
10,000 BC - I think this might be Emmerich's worst film, and that's saying something.
2012 - Worse than The Day After Tomorrow, but not as bad as 10,000 BC Anonymous - Okay, this was decent.
I said he was good in the "Well it's not complete gak on a bun" sense. Average, mediocre, with exceptional marks in blowing large set pieces up. Hell 2012 was worth admission just to see California fall into the sea. I hate that state.
I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long

As with many of the films of its ilk, Mel Gibson's endearing persona was it's only saving grace
So what you just said is that it has no saving grace... I think I am understanding this betterer.
