The way I'm reading the War Walker wargear options, you have to buy the flakk upgrade for each separate missile launcher, meaning if you wanted a Missile Walker, you'd have to shell out points for two launchers with two flakk upgrades. Is this correct?

This would mean that a War Walker is only 15pts cheaper than a Psyfleman.

does it come with the option flakk upgrades... this answer your question.

Edit .... must not knee jerk ....

Yes Flakk cost lots of points ... but the end of the day its optional. Yes Skyfire is nice to shoot flyers down mass Str6 does a good job as well. Wouldn't be surprise if mathematically walkers with scatterlasers and shuriken cannons did a better job (point for point) vs flyers.

"Only" 15 points cheaper than a really good unit point wise.

This is a case of comparing apples and oranges. Psyflemen do still have to hit, and while they're twin-linked, they're still only likely to make one penetrating hit a turn. Each one then takes up its own FOC slot.

With flakk missiles on War Walkers, you fire at full BS so already you're more likely to hit than a single twin-linked shot. Now consider that you can add Guide/Prescience to 3 in one casting, and take scatter lasers for Laser Lock as well if you don't have a psyker nearby. Or, take two launchers and for about the same cost as a Psyfleman, you're landing more shots than Psyflemen even without Guide/Prescience.

Of course, the balancing factor is how easy it is to take a War Walker down in comparison.

Why would you ever put double EML with flakk on the War Walkers? It is so much more efficient to do SL/EML w Flakk. You get the cheap anti-horde & light vehicle fire power and the ability to TL those missles for a "fairly" reasonable price.

To answer your question Elric Greywolf: Yes, you would have to buy the Flakk Missile Upgrade for each Launcher, and each War Walker can take up to two Launchers.

I'm personally a fan of Scatter Laser / Bright Lance War Walkers at the moment, but then I've always had a soft spot for Bright Lances as a concept.

since when did Eldar get psyrifleman dreadnoughts?

oh right, they don't.

if you need air support and you don't have flyers right now, flakk is your best bet.

Not really. With Eldar statistically it'd be 2xScatterlaser WW's with Prescience or Guide. Or 2xBL WW's +Guide/Pre. Lots of dice +rerolls > Flakk imo.

Ok this is more tactics but ... ( lets not get into the damage table lets just look at removing a single hull points) (hit= hit roll, pen = penetration roll glance or better)

VS AV 10 flyer 2HP

Dual Flakk; Hit 4/6, pen 3/6
55.5% to remove 1HP
and guided
69.1% to remove 1HP

Dual Scatter; Hit1/6, pen 2/6
36.7% to remove 1HP
and guided
57.6% to remove 1HP

So which is better? Lets ignore guided and compare the two point for point. If I compare price of mode vs chance to hit there's only about a 4% difference in effectiveness (in favour of Flakk). With this in mind I'd put more into Scatter lasers as they're better in general, of course YMMV.
