Is he worth his points? Have you ever ran him / played him? If so what is he like? Thanks

Short answer: no he's not worth his points. A wolf lord on a thunder wolf is far better and only around 50 points more expensive if you want to go down the CC monster route.

The only really useful thing that Arjac can do, is lead a squad of GHs thus giving you an incredibly tough scoring model who can tank and dish hits like a champ. However, he's not durable enough, nor strong enough to be worth his price tag of 188pts. Invest them elsewhere.

I will disagree with this. Arjac is a mainstay for me. He can be just silly in cc, since he's s10 and can reroll all failed hits on independent characters and monstrous creatures, and theres not much he can't one shot when he's benefiting from Logan's prefered enemy. Hes even come close (1 wound away) from killing 30k horus. I either run him with logan and 3 other wolf claw/pfist termies or 4 other termies with combi meltas In a drop pod.

In short, I love Arjac. He's terrifying, is a 2 wound eternal warrior beast that can be scoring.

I ran Arjac+Logan+MMLongfangs in a D-Pod.

Relentless + splitfire ftw.

Than having Arjac/Logan towards the front to soak up wounds.

So what does Arjac do after he's podded in with the long fangs? Sit there twiddling his thumb while they shoot things and Logan runs off to smash stuff? Or do the long fangs you bought heavy weapons for decide to charge into combat?
That's quite possibly the worst use of Arjac I've seen.

While I agree he is strong, he's not 188pts strong.

188 pts for two wounds is a joke. He doesn't buff your army, so he's not a utility piece and he's not an IC so he can't break off from his squad when needed.

Compare him to Lysander and cry. Better in combat and at least has some utility as a force multiplier

It's a shame, I love my arjac model

Arjac is a monster in CC, but he's a huge risk at only 2 wounds.

Griddlelol, I find myself agreeing with you and Grugknuckle far too often.

Arjac is what I'd call "not good". Scratch that. I'd call him garbage most of the time if I'm honest, but then I like to exaggerate when something is a bad idea.

He's neat. There's just usually other things you can do with that many points. Take another Grey Hunter Pack or Long Fang Pack both come to mind pretty quickly. Take 5 Drop Pods. Take two more Rune Priests.

There's a lot of options available that are just "better" from a strictly competitive standpoint.

If you plan on taking a WGBL in TDA with a TH/SS (why!?) then sure, Arjac becomes a good buy in comparison. The 28 points he costs over a WGBL with similar equipment grants you S10 and a short range S10 AP1 shot and Eternal Warrior, and you only lose a single Initiative which is only a problem if you suffer JOTWW or fall back.

But at the same time, why not just take a Lone Wolf? 85 points sees you saving 103. You lose the ability to lead Grey Hunters and thus ride a Drop Pod, but you gain re-rolls to hit MCs/Walkers/T5 things, Fearless, FNP, and never give up a kill point. You may not ID T5 things yourself, but most things with multiple wounds are T6 anyways if they are over T4.

Shoot, take two Lone Wolves. Its still cheaper by 18 points.

These guys have made some good points, but I would still recommend at least trying him out. He's really fun to use, and almost feels a little Orky with how much wanton chaos and destruction he can cause.

People dismiss the hammer throw as silly and dumb because of it's range, but it's one of the many things that makes him better than Lysander. Nailing the swarmlord with a hammer toss, bonking him down to initiative 1 and then charging in is priceless. So is rolling a 6 to hit, and using a precision hit to ID a character or powerfist before you charge in is amazing as well.
Also keep in mind that he always hits on a 3, no matter what, along with all the other things I pointed out earlier.

As to lone wolves being better, they aren't. They are supposed to be used for different purposes. The lone wolf can't take a transport for himself, can't join another unit of terminators or be joined by and independent character and can't take objectives.

Same thing as the thunderwolf lord. If you are going to run thunderwolves he's great, but Arjac has more variety with where he can go.

188 points may be a lot of points to sink into one model, but it's an investment I make every time I play Space Wolves.

Pulled that combo in the last Apoc game.
The squad managed to take down two Baneblades.

My opponent fired EVERYTHING in the squad killing off the Long Fangs pretty quickly.

Even mighty Grimnar fell and Arjac lost a wound.

Arjac on his own finishes the 2nd Bandeblade by charging it.

My opponent's Fire Warriors unlead 20+ shots into lone Arjac.
"Ha! You got 12 saves to make."

I roll my twelve saves...not a single '1'

"WHAT?!! (followed by explitives not fit for publication)

Eventually a far off squad of Crisis suit fired all their plasma and managed to finish him off.

There are a few other things to consider with Arjac.

If you are going to take TH/SS TDAWG anyway, then I'd seriously look into Arjac. He is only an extra 56 points over those two models. Has the same number of wounds, has the same number of attacks (on the charge/counter charge) has +2 strength, has a shooting attack, gives the unit stubborn, and most likely actually hit/wounds more often because of his special rules/wargear..

He also is one model instead of two. So when piling into a landraider or drop pod you can get one/two more guys in there instead of just another TH/SS terminator.

Arjac is simply put, fun as hell. He actually brings a lot to the table more than just what his stats look like. He actually really represents what SW chapter is supposed to be about. Yeah he could probably be about 30 points cheaper in a perfect world, and as such you will never find him in spammy WAAC lists. But to be honest you wont loose any real competitiveness by including him in your list as long as you had intended to run some terminators in the first place.

He's a 188pt tank. He can reliably soak through a torrent of shooting, and sometimes stays alive.

If they decide to assault you, by all means. Arjac + Logan can probably swing the tide for ya.

To repeat Arjac is a beast once you get him in to combat. Other things he can do is take most Characters in a Challenge without issue even striking last. Unless you are T6 or have Eternal Warrior you are usually receive an ID wound in the first Assault Phase if he did not kill with a Hammer to the Head 1st and if you survive that you are also going off in I1. He also no mater how good you are smack you on a 3+ to hit, baring your special Wargear.
He can take punishment like there is no tomorrow with his 2+/3++ save and Eternal Warrior ability S10 AP1 pie from the sky it usually takes more than two hits to kill him. He also automatically frees up Logan to kill the Non-Characters in an Assault.

Let me preface this. Arjac is not unplayably bad. He's much better than say, Ragnar. That said, he's not "competitive" He is severely overcosted.

If you are using him to tank wounds, it is very likely a terrible idea. It only takes 36 bolter shots to kill him. The same number of bolter shots only kills 4 Grey Hunters. Congrats, you just spent 188 points to save 60. The only weapons where it's cost effective to tank with him are AP3 weapons. Well done, you found a 188 point solution to krak missile spam. Incidentally, if you buy into the myth that he's durable...well, Lysander is literally twice as durable. A Lone Wolf is actually more durable, at less than half the price.

He's definitely above average in assault, arguably very good. But he falls short against the true assault power houses in the game, and he doesn't provide much utility outside of "better than a Sergeant with a powerfist"

Also, if you're running Hammer/SS TDAWGs, I don't know what to tell you. That's probably the most overcosted unit in the codex. Just run vanilla Marines. You could still use your TDAWG models (as they are awesome, obviously), and Arjac as Lysander. (I'm sure you can fit in a sniper squad to make them legal allies, heh). Competitive play is about maximizing the advantages in your own codex (for Wolves that's pretty much just Rune Priests and GHs. Or Logan and Power Armor Wolf Guard), not taking options that have cheaper and/or better equivalents in other armies.

If you want to run him, go ahead. You can still win, and he may even shine. But he's definitely not a good buy.

For me it is!

Considering I hold the record at my FLGS for consecutive failed saves.

With my Space Wolves I have failed 13 (3+) consecutive saves.
