So I had the bright idea of spamming hemlock wraithfighters (aka Boo fightas as I will call them from now on) in order to scare super expensive units off the table and I started thinking "That would work great on flying MCs" so I started trying to find rules that would prevent/allow it before carrying on and making the gag list. The GW FAQ goes into detail how witchfire powers that don't snap fire cannot hit FMCs, but it never goes into maledictions. So I guess my questions are:

1)How does a Flying monstrous creature fall back while swooping?
2) Can I even target FMCs with maledictions?

And the second part.

I saw a dakka user here mention that because the Boo fighta moves on it cannot cast the malediction power. I looked up the FAQ and it states on page 7 of the BRB FAQ:
"Q:Blessings are 'manifested at the start of the psykers movement phase' - does this mean they happen simultaneously with Reserves rolls, Outflanking rolls etc and if so which is resolved first?
A: They do occur simultaneously - as such the player whose turn it is decides in what order things occur as per page 9 of the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook"

Then reserves stats I have to make a reserve roll and move the model on before moving onto the next reserve roll, then the movement phase starts for the rest of the army. So from that it appears I can decide to do my reserves first then cast my maledictions (yes its not a blessing but its the same criteria). So the question here is:

3) Can a hemlock wraithfighter cast terrify on the turn it arrives?

Thanks.

3). No. Read the psychic power rules again - page 67 from memory forbids any casting when you come on.

A) The psychic rules are very specific that a model arriving from Reserve can't cast start of turn powers that turn. Yes, this sucks for Hemlocks.
B) There is no rule for how a Swooping model Falls Back. I expect most folks will default to having it make a Fallback move like a Jump unit (which is how it moves when Gliding); so 3d6".

Yup, there is it on page 67

"On the turn a psyker arrives from reserve he cannot attempt to manifest any psychic powers that must be manifested at the start of the movement phase"

Odd the FAQ changes that for blessing though, despite being pretty clear.

The FAQ is to allow you to cast Blessings with models who are ALREADY on the table before you make your Reserve rolls. This allows Scrier's Gaze to actually help Reserve Rolls, as it's intended to.

As Mann said, the FAQ doesn't change this whatsoever. It just allows, say, a Tervigon to cast Endurance on a Doom that just landed so he can survive to fire off Iron Arm next turn.

Cool, I just had the sequencing screwed, thanks.

I hate that FAQ, I see it all the time when people are questioning if psykers can cast the turn they come onto the table. No psychic powers can be used the turn you come onto the table, period. The FAQ did not over-write this, though I can see the confusion, because the psyker in question was already on the table. Not really the readers fault, as the quality of FAQ rules are far worse then what is already in a book that I point out had to be written by green-skins.

The FAQ was addressing a timing concern, one which does cause disputes. What comes first 'beginning of the turn' or 'beginning of the movement phase.' An example was provided one one each, casting a psychic power at the stat of the movement phase and reserves coming in at the start of the turn. The answer was simple: Both happen at the same time because the beginning of your movement phase is the beginning of your turn. This is why it says to look at page 9, which addresses timing.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

it really doesn't matter if you hate the FAQ or not, but if a psyker may not manifest a power from reserves, it doesn't happen.

time to modify your tactics.

I don't use psykers, and wouldn't attempt to cheat with this weak argument to begin with. It is just a little frustrating seeing how many times it is brought up. Every time there is a beginning of turn/movement phase thread it is pulled out as if it made page 125 completely moot....

Um.. isn't the Hemlock restricted to one specific psychic power? I seem to remember something about at least one of the flyers listed as having that restriction.

Yes, it can only cast Terrify, which is what this thread was about.

I didnt see anyone saying it had a different one?

I think its because I mentioned blessings and the time for them.

I'm still trying to figure out Jinxdragons comment about how this is cheating and its some form of argument.

Because psykers are denied, thanks to page 125, from casting any abilities on the turn they come in from reserve. It is a weak argument to try and say this FAQ made 'blessings' immune from that rule. The FAQ answered the timing issue of what comes first, start of turn or start of movement. Nothing in the FAQ states that the psyker casting the power was the one coming in from reserves.
