MISSION TYPE
Crusade (3 Objectives)
DEPLOYMENT
Hammer and Anvil
We roll to see who places two objectives and I win placing two at one end of the long board.
SW place one in the open on the other side of the long board.
I win the roll off to see which side we choose and I choose the side with one objective.
Then my oppenent wins the roll off for who goes first and gives the first turn to me.
I deploy my landspeeders centrally on the 24'' line hoping to put a dent in his firepower early. My
tac squad deploys in cover next to the objective in my DZ. All terminators will arrive turn 1 via deathwing assault
Space wolves deploy the assault back near one objective and the Las/
plas back deploys right ontop of the other one. Most of his forces then deploy around this objective in cover and with good
LOS to the battle field. The combi melta wolfguard joins the Assault back unit, the
CML WG joins the
ML fangs and the
TH&
SS WG joins the other long fangs. The lone wolf deplys on the 24'' line directly infront of my tacticals.

Space wolves attempt to sieze the initiatve but fail!
DA turn1
Movement:
I deeptrike my first unit of termies into the top left of the board about 12 inches from his long fangs. They scatter back 8'' but are JUST able to deploy on the table.
The second group with the assault cannon land on target where the first unit had scattered from and the last unit with belial did not scatter.
The typhoon on the right moves behind the building to get cover from longfangs and also to have a clear line of sight on the assault cannon razorback.
The other two speeders move up 6 to get into range of his infantry and also his other razorback.
Shooting:
I begin by firing the
tac squad and the right side typhoon at the assault cannon razorback. They get two pens, one of which is saved by 4+ cover and the pen result is weapon destroyed (Storm bolter).
The deathwing squad closest to the same razorback splits fire: with the
CML firing at the Assback and the storm bolters firing at the
plas/las long fangs. I get one pen and stun the razorback and all saves are made on the longfangs.
The assault cannon squad fires at the same squad but again all saves are made.
At this point I give up on the assback as it and its occupents may only snap fire next turn and are unable to assault and I need some plasma cannons dead! So the final
DW squad unloads on the longfangs and manages to kill one
PC and the sarge.
I realise now that I should have focused fire on all members in the squad with a 5+ cover save with my previous squads as this would make the long fangs take the saves and not the wolfgaurd who had no cover save.(Is this how it works?)
The remaining speeders decide against shooting at the same longfangs for fear of the wolf gaurd absorbing all the wounds and instead try and kill the Laz/
plas back but only manage 2 glances and a pen. After cover only the glance gets through.
So all my shooting stuns a razorback and removes its bolter, glances another razorback and kills two long fangs. Oh dear, return fire is going to hurt alot.
Space wolves turn 1
Movement:
The plasma hunters deploy with shots on the closest
DW squad, the rune priest detaches from that squad and moves into cover. The lone wolf moves and then runs towards the
DA tacs. The wolf guard battle leader then joins the long fangs in a position to soak up wounds and the wolfgaud in the unit moves to do the same.
Shooting:
The plasma cannons long fangs fire at Belials unit and manage to kill the Sarge with his storm shield and another regular termie exposing Belial as the closest model to his shooting.
He then fires his plasma hunters and their razorback at the front deathwing unit and kill two.
The assback snap fires at the termies right next to them but fails to wound with the one hit it got.
The runepriest casts murderous hurricane on Belials unit and gets 16 shots! of those shots he wounds with 9. I begin taking 3 wounds at a time on Belial and he loses two wounds and with one save remaining I look out sir to the deathwing member near him who fails his armour save.
Finally the missile launcher long fangs split fire, 4 fire frags at Belials squad and 3 kraks at the left most typhoon speeder. The speeder takes two pens and no jinks are made. The frags cause 9 Wounds and a failed look out sir and armour save later and the space wolves have killed Belial.
So first blood and slay the warlord to the space wolves.
DA Turn 2
Movement:
The untouched deathwing squad move closer to the assback. The 3 man squad move up into assault range of the plasma hunters. The two man squad roll a 1 and a 2 for their difficult and dangerous terrain rolls (Murderous hurricane) and go towards the same direction. The typhoons move back out of long fang range to help the tacs kill the lonewolf.
Shooting:
The intact
DW squad fails to split fire so they can only shoot the assback and explode it killing one grey hunter. The assault cannon
DW also fail to split fire and so they fire on the plasma hunters killing none. The two man
dw squad fire frags at the missile launcher long fangs and mange to kill the wolf guard with the
CML.
The tacs and remaining speeders put one wound on the lone wolf.
Assault:
I declare charges on both grey hunter squads. The melta squad use their standard to re-roll 1's to hit and wound. He overwatches into the full
DW squad first. He rolls his melta and combi-melta first and gets 1 and 1. He then re-rolls thanks to the standard and gets 6 and 6

and manages to kill one terminator on the way in. His counterattack goes off and I challenge his wolfguard. The wolfen gets 6 attacks and 2 rends and the rest of the squad get 5 wounds and I lose two terminators before I can strike. I then kill everyone but the wolfen. In the challange the
WG and the sarge kill each other. So I win combat by 1 and the wolfen passes his leadership test.
In the other assault I lose another terminator to overwatch (damn that wolf standard) but make it in.Wolves pass counter attack. The lightning claws sarge kills 3 guys but then fails his first armour save. The powerfirst grey hunter and the remaining
DW termie kill each other. Both squads are wiped out
Space wolves turn 2
Movement:
Only the lone wolf moves, he also runs towards the tactical marines.
Shooting:
The plasma/las long fangs shoot at my 2 man unit and kill the storm bolter. The las/
plas razorback shoots at the remaining
DW termies with the
CML and I make my saves. The missile launcher long fangs split fire at the tacs and the remaining
DW member but can only kill one
tac marine.The rune priest casts murderous hurricane on the lone termie but again I make my saves.
Assault:
The wulfen gets 1 rend and 1 wound. I pass the 5+ invuln then fail my armour save killing a termie. The remaining
DW member then kills the wulfen and consolidates 1''.
DA Turn 3
Movement:
My
DW termie near the objective moves into the ruins and out of
LOS. He is 3'' from the objective. My
CML termie moves 1'' (damn that murderous hurricane) towards the rune priest.
My landspeeders move back a little to get jinks and to kill off the lone wolf. The tacs move back alittle to get better cover and be out of
LOS of some of his units
Shooting:
I kill the lonewolf with combined fire of the typhoons and
tac marines. I try my luck at insta killing the runepriest with my terminator's
CML but I'm unsuccesful.
Assault:
I attempt to assault the rune priest with my
CML termie. The rune priest then kills him with his overwatching bolt pistol

Space wolves Turn 3
Movement:
The razorback moves to try and get
LOS to the last
DW terminator (You cant see in the pic but a very small portion of his shoulder was visable) and the missile long fangs move forward to get into range of tacticals. The wolf gaurd battle leader decides to break off from the fangs and head towards my termie.
Shooting:
The razorback fails to kill my terminator as does the runepriest with living lightning(using the chooser of the slain to see him : the bird in the middle of the board!) The long fangs fail to kill any tactical marines after I go to ground and make my saves.
DA Turn 4
Movement:
Typhoons decide to move up to try to take some flakk off my tacticals and to start reducing the firepower heading their way. Tacticals get up. Terminator moves to be out of
LOS again while still with in 3 of the objective
Shooting:
I insta kill the battle leader with my left typhoon. I then roll kinda hot with the other one and manage to kill 3 long fangs (including their sargent)
Space wolves turn 4:
Movement:
Space wolves move the remaining
ML long fangs so they have
LOS to the tactical marines. The wolf gaurd with his thunder hammer storm shield leaves his long fang unit and heads towards the lone
DW termie.
Shooting:
ML long fangs snap shot and miss. The other fangs shoot at the right speeder and get a pen which I jink. The Lascannon from the razorback fails to hit the same speeder. The rune priest casts living lighning at the very same speeder but I deny the witch!! The wolf gaurd gets an almighty 6 on his run move and is now contesting the objective my
DW termie is holding.
So the game is now hangs in the balance. If the space wolves can stop me holding an objective they will win. They have limited firepower left but can easily kill off the terminator with the wolf guard and then only have to kill 4 tactical marines.
DA turn 5
Movement:
My lone termie decides he is going to try and kill the wolf guard (better than being charged) The
Tac squad moves up to the objective and runs to secure it proper. The right landspeeder moves infront of them to give them a cover save and block
los from the missile launcher long fangs. The left speeder moves up 12'' aswell.
Shooting:
I shoot both speeders at the long fangs and amazing kill nothing. The termie shoots his counterpart but causes no wounds.
Assault:
The two terminators kill each other in a dramatic double
KO!
Space wolves turn 5
Movement:
The razorback attempts to move to get a better shot on the tacs and rolls a double one for his difficult terrain!! Ouch. Nothing else moves.
Shooting:
The long fangs shoot their lascannons and plasma cannon at the land speeder infront of the tacs hoping to get a lucky plasma cannon scatter or vehicle explosion. But all the can do is glance it once (Phew!)
Living lightning gets 6 hits and 6 wounds on the tacs but only the sargent dies and the squad passes moral.
If the game ends now I will win 3-2. We roll and the game continues!!!
DA Turn 6
Movement: The tacs move closer to the objective while the
ML tac stays still. The right landspeeder moves to cover the tacs and the left one moves up slightly to get a nice view on the long fangs who are the biggest threat to my tacs right now.
Shooting:
The left speeder and the
ML tac marine wipe out the long fangs on the left! The last speeder then kills two of the 3 long fangs on the right.
Space wolves turn 6.
Movement:
Nothing, not a scooby
Shooting:
The Razorback evaporates a tactical marine. The long fang is unable to see the remaning two tacs so instead he fires and wrecks the speeder obscuring his view. The rune priest again gets 6 hits and 6 wounds with livning lightning but I manage make EVERY SINGLE ARMOUR SAVE !!
Then I take my moral test and roll a 10 sending the tacticals running 9 inches from the objective! Disaster
If the game ends now
SW will win 2-0. We roll for a turn 7 and we get it!
DA Turn 7
Movement:
My tacticals rally 3'' then move 6 back onto the objective.My functioning speeder moves to help give the tacs a cover save again.
Shooting:
I use my speeder to kill the long fang since its the easier thing to kill out of the razorback and runepriest although not the most dangerous.
Space Wolves turn 7:
No movement.
Shooting:
The razorback misses the tacticals and the rune priest only manages to get 1 hit and 1 wound with livning lightning which I save.
The game ends with me winning 3-2
Post game thoughts.
Wow that was an incredibly close game with some crazy dice on both sides. My terminators folded very early and very easily (I think I made 2 out of about 8 storm shield saves) but were able to take his scoring units with them. Then my boss tacticals made a ridiculous ammount of saves and with some sneaky movements granting me cover saves were able to win me the game.
If I was the space wolves player I would have kept the plasma hunters embarked and safe to be able to take an objective late game. I would have also concentrated less on the speeders and more on the tacticals.
From my perspective I really wish I knew the focus fire rule better. I think I could have done alot more damage to his long fangs early on dispite my below average shooting with my deathwing on the first two turns. I also feel my deepstrikes were a bit risky but hey ''he who dares wins Rodney!''
It was an absolute pleasure playing my opponent and I thank him for the close and enjoyable game and I hope you guys enjoyed reading !
