CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT!

I know at least in Operation Market Garden British Armoured would back up American Paratroopers, is this represented in the rules?

I'm just starting the game and have the Open Fire Shermans and US Airborne, and I want to do an Airborne list down the line with British tank support... is this even viable with recent books? Is this viable at all?

I'd rather my Sherman not go to waste (if it doesn't work, can they be run as American tanks? It's pretty dang similar outside of the Firefly, no?)

There are a few lists that have support from other countries, such as the Market Garden lists. But unless the specific list says so you can't.

Well, that's neat, a real shame though that they give you an army that can't actually be played together outside of the Open Fire list...

Unless Market Garden is worth looking into... It's pretty hard finding out which book has what you're looking for in advance.

The Open Fire lists are taken from the basic generic lists in the V3 Forces book which comes with the hardback rulebook.

If you don't have this then you can still get the lists, freely and legitimately at http://easyarmy.com. There's no need to buy any other books.

The British Armoured squadron is limited to just that one US paratroop platoon however but alt least it shows what further support options are available to expand the list..

There are multiple lists in the Market Garden book that combine US infantry and British Armour and Armoured cars, because, historically it was during this campaign that there was more of a sharing of support resources between the two than at any other point in the war. Since the British ran the show, overall, British armour supported both the American and the Polish airborne forces in their goals in the rush to Arnhem. So if you pick up Market Garden, or buy access to Market Garden on Easyarmy.com you should have some options for lists to look at. There was also an armoured car/cavalry list that is now in that book as well that could pick up US airborne infantry support.

As for using the shermans as US tanks, that is certainly fine. You'll want to not us the british crew figures provided in the box, but otherwise the shermans are just fine. The brits called them Sherman Vs, but the US designated them the M4A4 sherman. Only thing you can use for american tanks are the fire flies. If you want to use them too, just make two mods: Don't mount the radio box on the back of the turret and then cut the 17pdr barrel down to be the same length as the 75mms on the other shermans and you should be fine. There are some other minor differences between the firefly and sherman Vs, but not so dramatic that they will be obvious or problematic in 15mm.

Since it was announced I've been wondering why they decided to provide a combined US/British force in the Open Fire! box in the first place, as it does lead a new player to either stick with the limited options from Market Garden based games, or have 2 parts of an allied force with neither being big enough to use on its own. :\
