Terrain will be set by the judges at the
beginning of each round. When Fortifications
are played a judge will assist resetting the
terrain as needed. Please just raise a hand and
give a yell and someone will assist you quickly
if you need help placing a fortification.

What does this mean?

If terrain is pre-placed, can someone then put their fortification (some are quite large) to block the fire lanes, or obstruct an opponent's deployment zone, or whatever
(is that part of what you're buying when you bring a fortification, the ability to re-make the table?)

shouldn't a fortification trade-off with a piece of similarly sized terrain already on the table?

Except that fortifications explicitly must be placed in the owning player's table half. Normally, it is even placed prior to terrain to ensure that your opponent can use a large piece of Line of Sight blocking terrain to obstruct his quad-gun. By placing them after terrain, gun emplacements actually get to function.

If there are still openings can you throw me on the list? I may be bringing a couple others with me as well

I don't know any tournaments that have players replace a piece of terrain with a fortification. Adepticon had player placed terrain, where fortifications went down first and terrain couldn't be within a certain distance of each other or fortifications. Nova has set terrain so you can place fortifications anywhere in your half except on top of terrain.

So for this tournament the terrain will be set ahead of time by a judge. If you have a fortification, then a judge will come over and balance the terrain out after your fortification has gone down. You don't get to remake the table.

are there still available slots? I haven't decided if I'm going to be able to make it.

Is the painting requirement (described in Mechanicon rules) in effect for the qualifiers?

Yermom, I'd like to RSVP and I think jcress410 will be following up with an RSVP as well. Name is Kenny Johnson.

Are the forgeworld rules in as well? Seems like FW as long as it is 40k approved is allowed according to the Mechanicon rules.

Looking forward to it! Time to get list-bashing and ready for this.

All current FW units and lists for 40K are allowed in the main event (no Superheavies or Gargantuan Creatures). You must have the book and/or official PDF update for all units (no pirated copies).

Remember that you MUST be fully painted, based and WYSIWYG for the GT in November. There are NO EXCEPTIONS!

Tickets are selling out quickly. I have confirmed with The Warstore that if you buy a ticket to The Warstore Weekend and then win a ticket at the qualifier you can get a full refund from them.

I've always played going to grounds in ruins as a 2+ cover save, but after reading
http://www.3plusplus.net/2013/07/the-truth-about-cover-saves-in-40k/#more-7596

I've realized the error of my ways.

How would this situation be ruled at this tournament? 2+ or 3+?
What about at mechanicon?

Am I the only one who has been screwing up cover saves?

I was playing it incorrectly too, this has been recently discovered by my gaming group in the past month or so. While commonly played incorrectly, there is a correct way to play it (3+) so we will be using that.

I cannot speak for Mechanicon, but I can say that RAW it's a 3+ so I think it would be safe to assume it's a 3+ unless otherwise stated in their specific tournament rules/FAQ.
