Hey, just wanted to see what you guys think about this:
ADL with Quad Gun
HQ
Wolf Priest
Combi Plasma
Saga of the Hunter
Rune Priest
Elites
4x WG Terminators (Split up into various squads, and Drop pod to give me 3 on T1)
1x WG Power Armor w/Combi Plasma
4x Power Axe
2x Combi melta
1x Combi flamer
1x Heavy Flamer
Drop Pod
Troops
8 GH
Banner
Melta
Drop Pod
8 GH
Banner
Melta
Drop Pod
8 GH
Banner
Flamer
Drop Pod
5 GH
Flamer
Drop Pod
10 GH
Banner
2x Plasma
(Outflank with WP)
Heavy
6 LF 5x ML
6 LF 5x ML
Automatically Appended Next Post: Made some adjustments to get 2 Combi-plas into the plasma units so they should be pretty nasty when they arrive.

At 1500-1600 this will work probably. You may find your Long Fangs are a little exposed, but with 5 Drop Pods coming down you should be able to throw a lot of pressure on the enemy.

I play podding wolves as well and a few months back I dropped the long fangs, I know crazy wolves without missiles.
At 1500 I use
Rune priest jaws ll
5 wolf guard 5 combi plasma pod
4 squads of hunters with banners 2 double melta 2 double plasma all pods
Guard allies
Command squad 4 plasma
Vets
2 vendettas
This has done well so far.
I like the out flanking squad preferred enemy plasma is awesome.

That's actually pretty awesome sounding! If I keep the points in the SW units and just do bare IG units I can do something like this:
HQ
Wolf Priest
Plasma Pistol
Saga of the Hunter
Rune Priest
Elites
4x WG Terminators (Split up into various squads, and Drop pod to give me 3 on T1)
1x WG Power Armor w/Combi Plasma
4x Power Axe
2x Combi melta
1x Combi flamer
1x Heavy Flamer
Drop Pod
Troops
8 GH
Banner
Melta
Drop Pod
8 GH
Banner
Melta
Drop Pod
8 GH
Banner
Flamer
Drop Pod
5 GH
Flamer
Drop Pod
10 GH
Banner
2x Plasma
(Outflank with WP+WG w/Combi Plas)
Allies
HQ
CCS
Troops
Veteran Squad
Fast Attack
Vendetta Squadron (2)
Comes to exactly 1600
I have to deploy the Vets and CCS so that I can outflank the WP with GH squad still, but even if they get nuked T1 I won't count as being wiped out because I am getting my 3 Pods in regardless.
Hello nearly-null deployment!

Actually you only need one unit on the table to Reserve two, and any units embarked on any transport that must start in Reserve don't count against you.
But either way, I dislike that since it makes for an easy First Blood for the enemy. Taking Drop Pods, I think it would make more sense to make the Wolf Priest a Rune Priest and stick him in one of the Pods (he won't count then) and then drop the 5 man Grey Hunter Pack (give their pod to the 10 man) and use the points to fill out other things such as Heavy Bolter Sponsons on the Vendettas (once you try it you will never not do it), and MotW/Power Weapons on the other Grey Hunters (having special close combat attacks not stuck in a Challenge can be important).

Yeah I have been considering that. I like preferred enemy on the plasmas but Prescience is better anyways.
Any thoughts on TDA wg leading my packs? I like it from a fluff and feel perspective but no idea if its competitive

TDAWG are good. Don't stick them in the front and expect them to live forever though. Volume of fire will make you roll that one fatal 1, and its easy to fail a Look Out Sir! roll.
But 2+ saves can last a remarkably long time. I almost never leave my TDA w/ Combi-Plasma and Wolf Claw behind. They look cool and tend to linger. In both 5E and 6E I've won several games because I had a single scoring model on an Objective. In others, mainly in 6E, I've won a game because I left them together in a unit and they tied up something scary in close combat for 3+ turns.
If you are foot, you want them. In Drop Pods, maybe. Sometimes you need PAWG, and the only TDAWG will be one with CML or an Assault Cannon or Heavy Flamer. It really just kind of depends on what your list needs.

Hmmm, I am feeling like there is a lack of real heavy hitting in CC. At least something to tie up those big nasty threats out there that I will be very close to with my Pod units.
Here's a revised list that adds more hitting power and that I can get done sooner featuring just SW:
HQ
Wolf Lord (warlord)
Terminator Armor
Saga of the Bear
Chainfist
Stormshield (priced this out with Runic armor and it's the same points but I can't get a Chainfist, would have to take a Thunderhammer which is OK but not as versatile)
Wolf Priest
Plasma Pistol
Rune Priest
Rune Axe
Rune Priest
Rune Staff (just so they have different wargear)
Elites
5x TDA WG
5x Power Axes
2x Combi Plas
2x Combi Melta
1x HF
Troops
5 GH
Melta
Banner
Motw
Pod (Joined by 1x TDA WG, WL and 1 of the RPs)
7 GH
Melta
Banner
MotW
Pod (joined by 1x TDA WG and the other RP)
7 GH
Plasma
Banner
MotW
Plasma Pistol
Pod (Joined by 1x TDA WG and the WP for preferred enemy goodness 6 plasma shots T1!)
8 GH
Plasma
Banner
MotW
Pod (joined by 1x TDA WG)
8 GH
Flamer
Banner
MotW
Pod (Joined by the HG TDA WG)
So that's 1590, I have 10 points to shove in there or goof around with but I get 3 pods in T1 and 4 bada$$ HQ's for double jaws crisscross or something like that.

Doesn't work that way. Rune Priests have "Runic Weapons" which are Unusual Force Weapons (so they are all S: User and AP: 3). Bolters are free. Chooser of the Slain is most useful. Those are the two most common means of differentiating wargear for Rune Priests.
You also have to list out the psychic powers you are taking, and they must be different. Murderous Hurricane/Jaws of the World Wolf and Living Lightning/Jaws of the World Wolf are probably your best bet.
Still not a fan of Plasma Pistols; maybe if they were 10 points instead of 15... But should be fine. You're only spending 30 points on the two and there's not a whole lot else you could do with the points, though Saga of the Hunter and Runic Armor jump to mind.

Actually, preferred enemy is better because you also get re-rolls to wound and you can use it in CC as well. Prescience you have to roll for it - risking perils - and you don't get any benefit to wound.
I like your list, but I don't think that Saga of the Hunter is necessary. For 10 points it's not really a big deal but you shouldn't feel compelled to always outflank. Sometimes its a bad idea.
Also...Plasma pistols are crap. Especially on your Grey Hunters. Why would you pay 15 points to have 1 plasma shot at range 12", when you could pay 10 points and have 4 plasma shots at range 12" or 2 plasma shots at range 24"?
Make your GH squads 10 men and take the free plasmagun. Then give your WG their own drop pod.

Wait where does it say that Runic Weapons are Unusual? I just read the FAQ again and can't find it, though Njal's RW is specifically listed as "Force Weapon (Staff)" and the description says that they're either axes of staffs.

Isn't there a cheaper way to get saga hunter? my codex isn't handy but i think a wolf guard battle leader may be a bit more points efficient. and you can equip him more usefully i think.
but really watch out for how much you need to start on the table. the units that have DP don't count towards the total, but the HQ's being different units will. so if you have 2 pods and 2 hq's to go in them. one of the hq's will need to be on the table. Unless they've FAQ'd this. if they have someone let me know.

I've dropped SoH from my current iteration, will probably pick it back up in the 1850 version of the list when I pull some more ground units up. Really SoH is just to get max plasma guns into a GH squad (10x GH 2x Plasma Gun, 1x plasma pistol, RP with Combi Plas and WG with combi plas)

In the BRB, an "Unusual Force Weapon" is any force weapon that has extra close combat rules. Since the "Runic Weapon" has the special ability to wound deamons on a 2+, it count's as an unusual force weapon and therefore is an AP3 force weapon striking at initiative regardless of how it's modeled. The wolf guard battle leader is only 30 points cheaper than the wolf priest, but he has the following drawbacks
1) WGBL is only leadership 9 while the Wolf Priest is Ld 10.
2) Wolf Priest makes the squad Fearless
3) Wolf Priest grants the squad the "Preferred Enemy" USR against any one unit type (usually infantry). The WGBL does not.
4) The Wolf Priest comes with a bolt pistol, power maul AND a 4+ invulnerable save, the WGBL starts with bolt pistol and chainsword.
The wolf priest is far superior to the WGBL.

OK yeah I see how that works RE the Runic Weapon now. So I've been tweaking a little bit more and with the 30 points I have spare I've changed the list to throw some TDA on my HQs:
HQ:
Wolf Lord
TDA w SS/CF
SotB
Wolf Priest
TDA w Combi Plas
Rune Priest
TDA
Rune Priest
Elites
5x TDA WG
4x Power Axe
1x PF
2x Combi Plas
2x Combi Melta
1x HF
Troops
5x GH (WL, WG, RP in PA goes here)
Melta
Banner
Motw
Pod
6x GH (WG and RP in TDA goes here)
Melta
Banner
MotW
Pod
6x GH (WG and WP in TDA goes here)
Plasma
Banner
MotW
Pod
8x GH (WG in TDA goes here)
Plasma
Banner
MotW
Pod
8x GH (WG in TDA with HF goes here)
Flamer
Banner
MotW
Pod
Thoughts on this? I have 10 points left as well that I am just not sure where to spend, I mean 10 points for a Chooser is OK, or 10 points to give the WP SotH for stealth is also pretty good if I have him exit into ruins.

Yeah that's what I'm feeling too, actually mostly for the infiltrator but it also makes them more versatile with powers outside of JotWW depending.

Oh another question, and this might be meta specific, but I am waffling between 2 units of Plasma GH (and 2x combi plas WG) or just going with 1x Plasma and 2x Flamer squads (seems more versatile)
